Thanks Janae, some ark building, and scrapbook love.

Yesterday was a catch up day! A huge thanks to my mother in law for watching Noah all afternoon since he likes to “help” with laundry and dishes and then it takes me four times longer to get nothing done as it normally would.

Is anyone else experiencing massive amounts of rain where they live? We began our day with a 5 mile run before the monsoon. I told Noah he better get to working on a family ark for us because our street is almost flooded. He’s out there hammering and nailing away as I’m typing. The neighbors already think I am nuts so don’t worry about that.

I came inside from grocery shopping and all I could think of was how I needed hot chocolate ASAP because even though the low was 60 degrees here in Houston yesterday, I got soaked and was freezing! How do people with real winters that have actual snow and rain function out there? You are my heroes.

I just wanted to take a minute and thank my blogger friend, Janae, for really appreciating the scrapbook I made for her little girl Brooke! She was actually the first blog I ever regularly followed and she really inspired me in some hard times. It was a small way to give back to her.

My love for scrapbooking began when I was at

ERC in Denver. My mom sent me some supplies for a baby scrapbook to pass the time. It gave me something to put effort into, it let me express my creative side, and it felt like I was making something that I would treasure forever. It was so hard to be there away from family, and I dreamt about the day I could put real pictures of my baby into it. I soon realized I was making way too many pages than I could use (Joe said no to the “one baby for every scrapbook” proposition I threw at him, something about it’s not financially responsible blah blah blah…) and started gifting them to people I knew who were expecting.

Now, I make them in bulk! If you or someone you know is expecting a baby and would like a personalized baby scrapbook email me and we can work something out! :-) There’s something really therapeutic about putting your heart and soul into a gift you know will mean a lot to someone.

Dinner last night was phenomenal. I tried something a little different. Lean turkey sausage, whole wheat pasta, olive oil, and ranch seasoning. Joe and I are both excited to have this again!

I wanted to wish my husband a Happy 2.5 Year Wedding Anniversary (I know you already got my gift so I don’t need to tell you what I want… ;-) And also a HAPPY HAPPY 29th BIRTHDAY to the woman from whom I inherited my passion for running, chocolate, nursing, and those cute engineering boys AUNT JACKIE! I love and admire you so much :-)

Question:

Are there any crafty things you enjoy? Tell me about it!

Aww that’s so sweet that you made her the scrapbook. I do remember seeing a post about that now that I think about it. So cool! Unfortunately I don’t see any kids on the horizon for me…. Actually, not unfortunately at all. I’m way too young for kids, noooo thank you.

I remember thinking that was the sweetest gift ever when I saw Janae mention it. I love that you do that for people :) I’ve tried to get into scrapbooking on a few occasions, but there’s just so much involved that I tend to get overwhelmed and quit part way through.

I’m thinking about doing a post because I used to feel like that too but I promise it’s easy! I use a system haha. And it’s so fun to have them to look back on!

Wow you are SO good at scrapbooking! My poor mother gave up on buying me scrapbooking kits after our wedding. I just never had the artistic eye for making them cute and usable. Now we have a 2 month old son and the best I’ve been doing is making sure I upload pictures onto Snapfish so she can keep up with him from 5 states away :)

Hey that’s something, Lauren! And I know your mom must love that. Grandparents can’t get enough of their grandbabies!

Aw, I saw the scrapbook on HRG and thought it was such a sweet gift. I have made a few over the years for friends and they are always a big hit but I rarely scrapbook any more. We have had much more rain than normal this winter. I am ready for some sun!

I remember seeing that post on her blog about the scrapbook… that was incredibly thoughtful and I know she’ll treasure it. I made a scrapbook for my sister-in-law when she and my brother got married and I think she really liked it.
I love scrapbooking. I used to do some tie-dying but I haven’t done that in a long time!

I’ve yet to comment and only just found your blog yesterday, but I’ve read back through every page up until this point (and of course linking to your personal story from this post), and I just wanted to say thank you for sharing yourself with us. It takes a lot of courage to be unapologetically ourselves (both the good AND the bad), and you do it in SUCH a beautiful way that I’m really inspired. Keep fighting the good fight, and I’m happy to know you…even if only remotely. You’re amazing, chica. Now onwards with the archives! :)
