About Me

Hi there! I’m Elizabeth, the blogger behind My Neon Running Shoes. I am currently a 25 year old stay at home wife and mom to my one year old son, Noah. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I started running when I was about 12 years old and have been ever since! High school was where I began competing in cross country and track and after graduating high school I headed off to Texas A&M University, home of the fightin’ Texas Aggies! I was also a member of the cross country and track teams there. It was definitely a great experience… one that allowed me to travel, make awesome friendships and meet this handsome man :-)

Meet Joe, my wonderful husband. This picture is from 2008… We look a little different now, because Joe has less hair. I kid.┬áThis picture was taken after we both qualified for the Division I National Cross Country Meet in Terre Haute, Indiana.

I graduated from A&M in 3 years and went to an accelerated nursing program that allowed students to graduate with a BSN in 12 months. I really like taking my time with things and I am super patient. Saying it was hard is an understatement! After I graduated and passed boards and Joe graduated with an engineering degree we embarked on our journey to happily ever after:

Our wedding was on July 10, 2010. After an awesome honeymoon at the Sandals resort in Antigua, we came back to Houston to begin our lives as a married couple.

A few months later… to both our surprise… we found out we were expecting! And after a very trying, complicated pregnancy came the best day of my life: November 18, 2011.

Noah was born at 4:41 pm, 6 lbs 1 oz, 19.5 inches long and absolutely perfect. The past year has been awesome as I watch him grow.

I am the oldest of three girls. My sister, Kaylen, was married in August 2012 and my other sister, Lisa, is at Texas A&M studying to be a registered dietician.

Some things I am passionate about aside from family, friends, and running are: my spirituality, writing and photography (enter blog), scrapbooking, health, personal growth, cooking, baking, and DESSERTS!!!

37888_10100336715925464_6305544_nThis blog will include our day to day life, eats, workouts, desserts, and other random occurrences! I hope you enjoy reading.

Hi Elizabeth! I just found your blog and saw that you are an Aggie! I lived in College Station for 3 years while my boyfriend finished his Phd in engineering. We just moved to Northern California where he landed his first position. What a great season the Aggies had, huh?
I am hoping to start a blog soon as well so I’ll be stopping by to stay hi!

9 Elizabeth January 8, 2013 at 9:14 pm

Whoop for a fellow Aggie! And yes after several years, they are finally fun to watch again! Your husband ROCKS for getting a Phd in engineering! Just thinking about that makes my brain hurt. AND he got a position somewhere… Congrats, friend! I hope you guys are loving Cali!

Hi Elizabeth! I really enjoy reading your blog. I see you stayed at the Sandals in Antigua. My husband and I are going there in June for our honeymoon when school get outs. What did you think?? Any inside scoop or helpful hints?? Congrats on the marathon and pr, you ran a great race!

13 Elizabeth January 15, 2013 at 8:51 pm

It was WONDERFUL! Enjoy the laid back, all-inclusiveness! As for inside scoop… we didn’t book excursions through the resort. Locals have the exact same things for much cheaper! We did snorkeling, zip lining, and a trip to Barbuda to see a pink sand beach on a catamaran. It was so much fun! You will have a great time and I am so jealous you get to go! I always tell my husband I want to go back ;-)

14 Jackie January 16, 2013 at 6:29 am

We love all-inclusive places!! My hubby loves them especially for the drinks lol. Thank you for the advice! You can always try convincing the hubs for your 5 year anniversary : )

Hayley! Thanks for your comment! You are in Houston right? I’m thinking we should have a dessert date one night soon?

17 Hayley Reinert January 24, 2013 at 8:32 pm

We actually just moved to Pearland which is about 8 miles south from the med center! Y’all live in Katy right? I think we definitely should have a dessert date soon! I just graduated from nursing school and my job doesn’t start until the 25th of february so I am pretty free haha.

18 Elizabeth January 25, 2013 at 9:35 am

Congrats on graduating nursing school!!! Why don’t we plan a dinner with all 4 of us next week? I’m emailing you haha :-)

I used to be a great runner in my college days also (though not as good as you :) ).
Health, mysterious digestion issues, chronically low iron, stresss, orthorexia flittings, depression, anxiety….whatever the above…now over the age of 30 and just one ball of fatigue and digestive issues. A walk is a literal chore. I’m tired and lost and so sick of doctors and not able to afford alternative practioners. You and your family are beautiful and amazing.
Wish you could coach me through this. I don’t know what to eat or do anymore….brain fog :) Oh my.
Great blog though. Lovely.. Email me if you’ve ever a plan or advice for me :)
