14 day challenge and another marathon

Yesterday was uneventful. Actually it was semi eventful in the fact that I have been emailing back and forth with my running coach and he sent me a 12 week training schedule to run another marathon. After I kind of surprised myself last month with a 3:15, I want to try to run close to a 3 hour race (did anyone know the qualifying time for the Olympic trials is 2:46?!) I think 3 hours totally doable because I didn’t do any formal training for the last one. I had just started training for a half marathon about two weeks prior, but nothing too intense. So I’m thinking this could go one of two ways. Either really well because I actually put in some effort, or not so well if I put in too much. My goal is to find the right balance.

My first four weeks of training will be pretty light. A typical week will look like this:

  • Monday- 15 minute warm up, 30 minute fartlek (attempting to get in 7 pick ups or so) and 15 minute cool down.
  • Tuesday- 60 minute easy run
  • Wednesday- 15 minute warm up, 4-5 mile tempo shooting for 7 min pace, 15 minute cool down
  • Thursday- 45 minute easy run
  • Friday- 45 minute easy run with 6x50m strides
  • Saturday- ~10 mile long run
  • Sunday- OFF (I have a hard time with off days. Please ask me if I am taking them for some accountability. Thanks ;-)

The marathon I’m eyeing is the Davy Crockett Marathon in Groveton, TX on April 13. You can read race details here.

On to more exciting things like FOOD!

I suggest you all try this. It’s a sun butter (sunflower seed butter), jelly and banana panini. Yummy. I don’t know how I managed to cut it perfectly where no bananas are visible.


For dinner we made burritos. With some unpictured greens to help us grow big and strong. And had some leftover cheesecake for dessert.


As you know, today is February 1st! I decided that for every day until Valentine’s day, I’m going to do something to show Joe just how much I love him. Today, he woke up to this… His coffee cup, sweetener, k cup, and spoon all ready to go. I’m sure he appreciated the extra effort I took to move them 11 inches from the cabinet to the counter. Wife of the year award goes to me to ;-) Oh and there was a note. I have a fun lunch date planned for us!


And no, this is not attempt to get exactly what I want for Valentine’s day. Or maybe it is.

Hahahah you crack me up. I’m sure you’ll get an even bigger box of chocolates for the big day. But that’s really cute that you’re doing that! You can totally survive 14 days. It’s worth it for some chocolate lovin’ ;)
Also, another marathon? Girl, you are an inspiration to us all!

I have done a grilled almond butter and banana sandwich. SO good and filling. I’d bet that yours is better because, well Sun Butter trumps all nut butters.

I think you’re going to do great with your training! and I’m super jealous that I’m shooting for a 3:35 marathon and that’s after 4 months of training. haha. Everybody is different I guess:-)

Awwr! That’s seriously the sweetest thing EVER! Even if it didn’t require tonnes of effort on your part, it’s the thought that counts, right? It’s always nice to know that someone is thinking of you :D Some other things you could do? Cook his favorite dinner, offer to give a back massage, or plan a nice date night at home!

I think three hours sounds completely doable- this’ll be fun to read about your training and race!
I definitely think it’s the little things that are so great! Sometimes I do something super simple like brush the snow off his vehicle or throw some veggies together for a snack at work and he loves it.

I love this idea of 14 days… I know this is totally different, but when I was 30 days from the due date for Andrew my mother-in-law sent me a package in the mail of 30 gifts to open (none were extravagant… a magazine, mini-box of chocolates, popcorn, etc.). I opened 1 each day during that last month. I’ve done 12 day and 2 week gifts similar to what my MIL did.
Grilled PB & J sounds good. I’m allergic to bananas, though, so I’d have to leave those off!
