Lots of good stuff but most importantly: THE BEST BURGER OF ALL TIME.

by Elizabeth on January 14, 2013

I feel surprisingly ok today! Walking up and down stairs is hard but other than that the soreness is really nothing like I expected.

As you all know, the best part of a marathon is refueling! As soon as I finished the race I felt semi ill, but I know it’s important so I took what I was offered. An unpictured banana with water and these extremely nutritious goodies. Desperate times call for desperate measures. And I never turn down something free.

It was a madhouse in the George R. Brown convention center and it took me about 45 minutes to find anyone. I was freezing and all I could think about was dry clothes! Luckily I ran into my next door neighbors (yes the ones who betrayed me) and they let me use their cell phone to get ahold of family. Don’t think this pardons your sin, neighbor.

After driving back with my uncle to Joe’s truck (since he ran with me we had to go back and get it) we had just enough time to make mass (I showered in a locker room don’t worry) and then get lunch at my favorite burger place EVER!

This IS the best cheeseburger you will ever have. Bleu cheese, jalepenos, lettuce and tomato. If you are not a bleu cheese lover you are not allowed to read my blog anymore. I actually enjoyed the fries almost just as much as the burger. Joe tried to steal a bunch (like they were his?) and I almost threw a full out tantrum in the restaurant.

To avoid any confusion, no, I did not squeeze the burger grease into my hair. Hey, I said I showered… I didn’t say I had time to wash my hair also. Putting on makeup? Ha.

This is his, “Give me a bite, mom!!!” face. We came home and I must have either been really high on endorphins or some other drug slipped unbeknownst to me through Gatorade because I started detailing my house. Cleaning cabinets, counters, floors, laundry, ironing? you know, the normal thing to do after a marathon. Joe thought I had officially lost it and told me to sit down.

I was hungry for an early dinner so I had a piece of fish the size of your head and some vegetables because I genuinely really like vegetables. The only thing that would have made this meal better is some steamed brussels sprouts. My one true love.

I don’t know if you can tell but this piece of cheesecake is 6×12 inches and the crust is almost an inch by itself. You know I don’t lie when it comes to dessert. Please also note the chocolate and white I-don’t-know-what-the-heck-it-is sauce but I discovered the perfect bite includes dipping the cheesecake into the chocolate sauce first followed by the white. Don’t mess it up or you will be disappointed.

Today involves a few errands and some R&R. I hope your Monday is off to a great start!

What’s your favorite post race treat? What’s your favorite burger?

Omg omg omg that burger! I haven’t eaten meat in so long but the CHUNKS of blue cheese. Ooooo, my favorite! Truth be told, I can just rip chunks and eat it straight. LOVE stinky cheese.

After I ran my half, I was CRAVING chipotle. I wanted beans and guac so bad! They always give out the worst sickening sweets at the end of a race haha, it’s the last things you would want to eat!

I know I was surprised it wasn’t something more nutritious but I took it haha! And YES I could (and did) eat the chunks straight. It’s heavenly!

I would love to eat that burger in veggie burger form, but with the same toppings and the same sweet potato fries! Looks delicious.

Not going to lie, I would never turn down chocolate Teddy Grahams – they were one of my favorite cookies growing up! And the best part of exercise is definitely the refuelling process. I’m not a big fan of burgers, but holy.wow could I go for a taco right about now. Cheese, guac, and salsa? Swooooon.

Hahah I would have pitched a fit too. You don’t mess with a girl’s burger toppings if you want to keep your hands.

Mmmm, is there anything better than post-marathon fuel?! Probably, but it’s gotta be high up there on the list. I was craving pizza after my first marathon and I had a gift certificate to my favorite spot, but of course it was closed when we went. That was pretty tragic.

Aaaand I love that white coat…almost as much as that burger.

What I need to know is where that burger came from!!!!!

My pre- and post- race food is almost always pizza! But, a burger could take second place.
