The cold made me try something new.

by Elizabeth on January 7, 2014

Since yesterday I participated in the Sisterhood survey, I didn’t really get to show you what we’ve been up to lately. How did you even start your Monday without seeing the intricate details of our overly interesting weekend? I apologize. Joe went on a hunting trip so it was just me and Noah hanging out! Luckily the weather was SO much better Friday and Saturday than it has been the past few days so we spent most of our days at the park!

Sunday morning I had a ten miler planned with a friend (well she was for sure going to do 10 and I was just along for the ride/however long I felt like going) and when we started our first 5 mile loop the weather was perfect. At about 2.5 miles the wind picked up (30 mph against us and the stroller), it dropped 20 degrees, and started raining. At first Noah was fine but with a mile to go he was NOT having it. Neither were we and our main goal was getting ourselves home and warm ASAP. I’ve never been so happy to see my fireplace. Ever.

After church and grocery shopping Joe made it home and I decided to make Mexican food for dinner. I still wanted to keep it somewhat healthy so I cooked a big pot of quinoa, added Campbell’s chicken quesadilla soup (with corn and beans) and some Mexican seasonings, and then topped it with guacamole, sour cream, cheese, and red pepper! Everyone demolished it. It was exactly like the insides of a Freebirds burrito!

Monday morning rolled around and running in 26 degree weather with the stroller was simply not an option so I headed to the gym for a 30 minute walk and a pump class. It was awesome to change it up a bit. At least the cold was good for something! Like the rest of America, we pretty much avoided the outdoors at all costs for the rest of the day except when the UPS man delivered this to my front door. I won it from a giveaway on Katie’s blog a few weeks back!

I hope you’re having an amazing Tuesday! Today I’m off to meet a friend at the YMCA for a class called Body Attack! Wish us luck :-)

Questions:

1. Is there an end in sight to the cold where you are?

Tomorrow and the rest of the week it’s supposed to be above freezing…

2. What are your favorite group fitness classes?

3. What’s your favorite flavor of popcorn?

It is 5 degrees in DC today, with the wind chill it’s -20 or so. It’s disgusting cold. They even canceled schools. I will definitely be on the treadmill today.

My favorite bagged popcorn is called Sweet and Spicy, it’s by Angies. SO GOOD. My friend also makes a birthday cake popcorn. It’s like crack.

I like pretty much any class. Body pump, spin, yoga. I love group exercise. I always push myself harder.

I’m in NC and it’s really only very cold here today and I believe it’s supposed to be better tomorrow. I’m from NY though so it doesn’t really bother me :)

Lately I’ve been making popcorn in the microwave using plain kernels, placing them in a paper bag, and then topping with butter/salt. My husband proclaimed it the best popcorn ever! haha

My favorite class is also at my YMCA it’s called Body Shock! IT’s amazing and I’m going to teach it one day. (I work there.) There is definitely no end in site to the cold here in Missouri. We got 12 inches of snow!

End to the cold?! Nope. Not for a few months still. But I’m going to St. George in a month so that will be a beautifully warm change! :)

Body Pump has always been one of my favorite group fitness classes. I never would have thought strength training with a group could be so much fun, but it totally is!

The cold has just begun for us. It was kinda warm yesterday, but today it is absolutely frigid.
Nice idea with that quinoa-burrito dish. I need to try making something like that!
Glad to hear that you got in some nice workouts despite the weather.
My favorite kind of popcorn is white cheddar (SmartFood all the way)!

The temps here haven’t been to bad actually. Tomorrow is supposed to get up to 52. My favorite type of group fitness class is yoga but I’ve been meaning to try spin. You have to make reservations at my gym though so I haven’t done it yet….

Favorite class at the gym is strictly strength. SUPER hard and I always need more strength training in my life…Kettle corn is THE best and our negative degrees are turning into a heat wave tomorrow. It was -10 today and is supposed to be 28 tomorrow. And 50 on Saturday!! Woo hoo! That’s Ohio!
