Five things Friday.

Morning, friends! I’m linking up with Clare today for a Five things Friday post. I may have trouble keeping it to just five since we have been in the house this whole week sitting by the potty which led to almost zero human interaction meaning I have a lot of stuff built up ready to unload on anyone and everyone who will listen? lucky you, right? And how’s that for a run on sentence? 

1. Speaking of the potty (great intro topic, I know you’re excited) I think we may wait a little longer to try to potty train Noah. It’s been 4 days and I know that’s not a super long time but I feel like he’s moved backwards instead of forwards. I honestly want him to be ready and I don’t mind waiting. With everything coming up in the next week or two I’d be ok with still trying if we’d made progress but he’s almost scared of the potty now. And that’s fine. We gave it a shot and it didn’t work out! We can try again in a few months when he’s older.

2. On a different note, this has also been an interesting week for me pregnancy wise. At 17 weeks with Noah I checked into ERC. I definitely have mixed emotions about the whole thing. One of them being gratitude that I’m light years away from where I was 2.5 years ago. Thank you to my family and friends for pushing me and not letting me give up on recovery! Life is better over here anyway, even when I’m cleaning up baby poop ;-)

3. We decided to take a mini vacay/road trip next week (details to come) and I’m super excited!!!! It’s definitely another contributing factor to putting potty training on hold though.

4. Does anyone know any really good toffee recipes? Not the kind with saltines either!

5. I’ve been lucky enough to run with a friend two days this week and we are *hopefully* attempting a longer run tomorrow! I have felt so good the past few days and even been able to go a little faster when I feel like it (faster meaning not 12 minute pace? don’t get crazy.)

Other random things, please humor me:

6. I’ve been seriously slacking on food pics this week. Probably because our embarrassing meals have been quick things like chicken nuggets or rice with leftover chicken nuggets thrown in. I’ll work on it.

7. 18 weeks tomorrow!!! Repeat with me, “I will take a bump picture this weekend, I will take a bump picture this weekend?” If you happen to see me out and about, snap one and send it to me. Thanks.

8. Chocolate + peppermint = my new favorite dessert combination. I used to hate peppermint but now I can’t get enough. Gum, scented candles, desserts?. Mmmmmm. I bought these yesterday and my only complaint is that there’s just one cookie inside instead of two.

I cant get past chocolate and PB! Always will be my fave!

I am still in recovery mode and weight gain mode so my runs have been few and far between… how ever I would LOVE to do a long run this weekend, nice and slow :)
And ain’t nothing wrong with good ol’ chicken nuggets!! yumm

Great idea to put potty training on the back burner – no one needs extra stress during the holidays. My kids are teenagers now and I can say without a doubt that potty training was the most frustrating part of those young years (especially with my sons ;) – I remember thinking we would never get through it and that they would be wearing Pull-Ups to Kindergarten. One of them was past 4 when it finally clicked, but he did eventually get it! Noah has TONS of time! :)
My long run this weekend is only 6 miles – I’ve definitely been slacking lately trying to get everything ready for Christmas – it seemed to just sneak up on me this year.
I will pair anything with chocolate (except nuts – those need to be eaten on their own)!

That’s so crazy, I used to hate peppermint too. . .and now I like it! Crazy how our taste buds change. Same thing with asparagus. So weird. Take a bump pic this weekend – can’t wait to see it!!

I have a great toffee recipe! My mom used to make it for all of my teachers every year at Christmas time and people always call her to remind her to send their toffee – they love it that much!! Here ya go:

Ingredients:
4 sticks of butter
1 lb box of brown sugar (light or dark)
6 1.55oz Hershey’s chocolate bars (usually sold together in a package)

Directions:
1. melt butter + sugar over stovetop
2. using a thermometer, bring to a boil and cook until it reaches 320 degrees, stirring constantly (do not leave it alone!!)
3. remove from heat immediately and pour onto an un-greased cookie sheet with sides
4. lay Hershey bars on top of [wet] toffee mixture and spread evenly over top when it melts
5. let cool (preferably just laying out, but if you’re impatient you can put it in the freezer)
6. cut and enjoy!! Let me know how it turns out!

My son was super easy to potty train, I didn’t do anything at all. He showed interest, I bought a potty and he went, he was done with diapers at 2. My daughter is a completely different story. She showed interest at 2, we bought the potty and she used it several times and then decided she didn’t want to and I didn’t want to push. So I waited again and when she turned three I bought her a seat for the toilet which she liked much better and wasn’t scared of. She would tinkle in it but not poopy. She would ask for a pull up and hide in the closet. I asked the pediatrician and she said give her a little while longer so she’s not scared. Finally at about 3yrs and 3months I took the pull up away and just said, there aren’t any and thankfully she just said okay and went poopy in the potty and haven’t had issues since. Good luck and I think you’re doing a fabulous job giving him more time to get comfortable with the idea. She still gets freaked out with flushing lol. She has to be out of the room.

Is it weird that I actually don’t like mint flavored things? I feel like I am the only one! I do, however, love to pair chocolate with peanut butter! :)

I bought some chocolate peppermint hot chocolate mix from Trader Joe’s a few days ago, it is pretty good! Oh and I have been slacking on the Blogging front lately so I just wanted to say CONGRATS on your baby girl!!!

I’d say yes I have a great toffee recipe but it involves saltines….so good tho! The mint Oreos sound delicious right now. I made some peppermint bark the other day which totally hit the spot!

I need those mint oreos! I’ve moved from pumpkin to mint/peppermint and the Trader Joe’s candy cane oreos and chocolate covered peppermint oreos are almost gone so I need a new “mint cookie”!

Chocolate and mint.
Chocolate covered peanuts.
Chocolate and yogurt.
Chocolate flavored frozen yogurt.

Chocolate with PB is my go-to. In fact, that sounds really good right now. I’ll ignore the fact that it’s only 820 AM.

I don’t run anymore, but I have been getting in some amazing Crossfit workouts. My body is so ready for a couple days off though.

Definitely love peppermint with chocolate or anything salty (like M&Ms with popcorn!) with it.

I really need to jump on the potty training train with my 2-year-old but she just isn’t interested and I’m so scared to push (yet). I’m still hanging on to the hope that she’ll just decide on her own…at this rate we might be training my one year old with her! Lol
