16 Weeks: The 9 seconds in pregnancy where you feel awesome.

by Elizabeth on December 10, 2013

Good morning! I’m here with my 16 week update! I know I skipped last week but I plan on doing a weekly update from here on out.

Week: 16

Baby’s Size: Avocado

Symptoms: Feeling good! Minus a little back pain and a few headaches here and there I have no complaints. I’m definitely soaking up this time? I know it gets uncomfortable in a hurry. The BEST part of this week was feeling little movements every now and then. I was surprised because I don’t think I felt anything with Noah until after 20 weeks but I definitely know what they feel like this time around. It’s definitely one of the best parts of being pregnant!

Cravings/Aversions: Nothing super notable. I still really love cheeseburgers (with extra cheese) and pizza! The leftover Papa John’s from gingerbread making last week didn’t last long at our house! And as embarrassing as it was to post my nut butter photo, it’s a really good thing it exists. I eat it everyday without fail.

Also random, but has anyone ever made pecan butter? I received a HUGE box of them yesterday and don’t really know what to do with them.

Sleep: No problems here either. I got this for my birthday and put it on before bed and then rub my hands on the sheets. Is that weird? Regardless, I sleep like a baby. And keep a snack by my bed for nights I wake up hungry!

Workouts: Most days I get up and run 4 miles before Joe leaves for work. This week was big for me? I did 8 miles one day last week and 6 on Saturday! If I choose to sleep in then I do a circuit workout at home and no running.

I’m off to the doctor and to finish Christmas shopping! Hopefully they will confirm if the baby is a girl or a boy and we will be all set for Saturday’s gender reveal party!!!

Questions:

1. How much Christmas shopping have you done?

2. What’s your favorite Christmas food and drink?

3. What’s the weather like where you are?

I just made chocolate + pecan butter cups (since I don’t eat peanut butter) and they were super delicious. Sprinkle a little sea salt on top and it’s heavenly.

Or pecan pie. You can never go wrong with pecan pie.

Thankfully I am d.o.n.e. my Christmas shopping! It makes these next few weeks so much less stressful! Plus the weather here the last few days has been pretty gross. Two snow days in a row! Yesterday for ice and today for snow! Glad I can look at it from the comfort of my warm house!

my grandma makes AWESOME pecans around the holidays. she spreads the pecans on a cookie sheet, melts butter (she melts a LOT of butter for them, but just do it to taste), and then sprinkles them with kosher/ sea salt. roast at around 200- 250 till deep golden (right before burning! you’ll smell them). enjoy!

as for the q’s… weather is gray and depressing, making it quite hard to get out of bed in the morning (in VT and all our snow got rained away). favorites for christmas… hmmm… i love eating my stocking fruit and candy and drinking way-too-rich drinks :] working slowly but surely on my christmas shopping :]

Love the desserts that come with the season (usually all gingerbread-y). Or panettone!

My Christmas shopping has been done for a couple of weeks. We need to pick up a few little things (my FIL’s birthday is the 18th), but we’ll do that this weekend. I’m one of those that like to get things done early :) The weather in El Paso is cool (50′s) and sunny, but I’m looking forward to the cold temperatures and hopefully some snow back home next week!

I love reading all about pregnancy. Thanks for sharing your journey. Im excited to find out what youre having. My guess is girl. I remember you wrote about cutting back on running. Do you think that played a role in getting pregnant? I am hoping to one day get to experience the joy but so far (3 years) no luck.
As for pecans…Some yummy things I’ve made with pecans are pecan butter balls- just like buckeyes, pecan pie muffins, pecan pie bars, turtles and chcolate covered pecan butter truffles,.

YES. 100%. I think running places more stress on our bodies than we realize. We were trying for quite a few months, I decided to stop running, and three weeks later I was pregnant. There were other things I changed too! Email me for more details! I’ll pray for you. I know it’s frustrating when it doesn’t happen.

That’s awesome you’re still able to get some running in… and how exciting about movement! The weather here is super rainy and gross… no outdoor running for me :(

Almost done shopping! All of it has been done online and will be waiting for me when we fly in next Monday! The weather here(Netherlands) is not too bad for December, it was 50 earlier in the week! We fly back to MN on Monday where it has been -10 or colder I don’t think I am ready for that!!!

I still have all my shopping to do basically…Christmas snuck up this year so quickly with Thanksgiving being so late! I’m just not feeling festive this year so that is not helping.

Can’t wait to see what the little one will be :)

i’ve made pecan butter and it was good but SUPER SUPER DRIPPY (that word grosses me out, sorry but it’s the only word that works) so it definitely wasn’t like a spreadable nut butter. it’s possible that i food processed it for too long (likely) but it went REALLY quickly i think because the nuts are oilier than some. don’t get me wrong – it was delish – but it just wasn’t what i expected. you should make cinnamon sugar pecans – and if you do, let me know and i’ll come over and have some. the weather in houston right now is making me crave all sorts of toasty things and cinnamon pecans sound delicious.
