Five Things Friday

by Elizabeth on November 22, 2013

I know everyone gets super excited about Fridays! My friend was over yesterday for a play date and we were talking about how in mom world, every day is a Monday and every day is a Friday :-) It’s awesome depending on how you look at it. Today I’m linking up with Clare again to share with you five random facts from this week you probably never cared to know…

1. Joe and I had an AWESOME date last Friday to Vic and Anthonys. I’d never been and it was really good! Some dishes stood out more than others but it’s always fun (and extremely rare in my life) to change out of running clothes and slap on some makeup. We tried crab cakes first which stole the show!

I was feeling a little tired of steak after we OD’ed in Brazil so I went with mahi mahi. It was ok, just kind of plain for my taste buds. The lump crab on top was definitely the highlight.

In this case please don’t just a book by its cover. Or a horrible iPhone quality photo. Joe got filet with bleu cheese bacon butter. My sweet husband didn’t even care that I licked the butter right off his steak before he are it. So good.

Another HUGE success (keep it up V&A!) were the Brussels sprouts way in the background. The waiter warned us that side dishes come family style and one would be more than enough for both of us. So we went right ahead and ordered three…. Joe, for my birthday in 8 days let’s go back and order 13 sides of Brussels sprouts with bacon bleu cheese butter. Mac and cheese and broccoli were ok.

This cheesecake was another winner! I was so stuffed I wanted to forgo dessert but once I unzipped my dress I had plenty of room (true story.) We also got bread pudding to go and it was not good. Joe liked it and it tasted like chemicals to me.

Long number one… I’ll speed it up!

2. Every day I eat an apple the size of Montana.

3. This week I’ve actually been cooking since I wanted to try some side dishes to make for Thanksgiving next week! Monday I made a Gouda Mac and cheese and (ate the entire thing before I took a pic but Joe kept saying mmmmmmm!) and Tuesday I made broccoli cheese soup (no, it wasn’t an excuse to basically eat plain velveeta for dinner. That’s just silly.)

4. Holy headaches. Just as I pass the nausea stage I am getting terrible headaches! I didn’t have them with Noah. And my face looks like a 13 year old boy’s. It’s all worth it though!

5. My sweet husband tried to make it better by bringing me home fried chicken and Oreo cheesecake. He’s truly a keeper!

What are you up to this weekend?

If you are/have been pregnant what were your symptoms?

I had terrible terrible headaches when I was pregnant. My doctor had to give me special medicine because nothing helped and I couldn’t get out of bed. They stopped after the first trimester.
That dinner looks awesome.

You know baby girls steal your looks when your pregnant! I swear it happened with me- got acne when I was pregnant with my girl and absolutely none when I was pregnant with my boy! Have you looked to see what the Chinese gender predictor calendar predicts? With the 6 kids between me and my sisters it has been 100% accurate!

9 Elizabeth November 22, 2013 at 1:34 pm

Almost every wive’s tale says boy, including the gender chart! It was right with Noah too. Crazy how accurate that thing is!

I’m not going to lie… Being pregnant and eating tons of delicious food seems AWESOME. Lol and I definitely would have chosen the brussel sprouts! Anything roasted is a win for me, especially those little gems!

I had to skim all your food pics because they were making me hungry!! Are you a “headache-y” person? I had migraines before I was pregnant, then they came back while I was pregnant. My doc said it was fairly common due to the hormonal changes. I think it mainly lasted the second trimester and was gone. My doc did prescribe something for me to take for my really bad migraines which helped (tylenol just doesn’t always cut it!).

I luckily never get headaches! I’m definitely thinking it’s hormonal. You’re right, tylenol does nothing. But it’s worth it :-)

Giant apples are the ONLY kind of apples that should be eaten! I actually get upset when I go to the grocery store and can only find tiny apples :( .

Your apple looks like a honey crisp. The ones I’ve been buying this fall are huge and delicious!

My son requested a really cool mac’n cheese dish for Thanksgiving, so after seeing you mention that you’d made a Gouda one, I Googled it. I just found a recipe with smoked Gouda and bacon, so I’m going to try it. Thanks for the idea! :-)
