Hello from Brazil!

by Elizabeth on November 7, 2013

Thank you for all your sweet comments and well wishes on my last post! We made it to Rio de Janiero safely! Once Noah fell asleep on the flight it was relatively easy (although not necessarily comfortable ;) and we had an awesome first day! It’s raining here for the next day or so meaning I didn’t get any scenery pictures. Stay tuned!

A lot of you liked my comfort food pictures in the last post so I’ll show you a few more of our indulgences ;-)

We got to the airport SUPER early for our flight so we had time to eat at a Papadeaux Seafood Kitchen. We started with mozzarella sticks the size of your face? and basically licked the plate clean.

A little more mac and cheese, although I think I prefer velveeta!

I do still try to eat fruits and vegetables. I had a Greek salad with lump crab meat.

The flight was about 10 hours long and it’s four hours ahead of Houston which actually worked out perfectly because we were lacking sleep!

For dinner we decided on a Brazilian Steakhouse called Mario’s recommended by my FIL. It was really eclectic and we had a great time!

The first course was a trip to the salad bar. I had no idea what most of the stuff was so just started trying stuff that looked good. I made sure not to fill up though because I was super excited for all-you-can-eat steak.

Joe and I both agreed the parmesan sirloin and the filet mignon were the best. You never leave a Brazilian Steakhouse hungry, that’s for sure!

The dessert bar was basically like a fro yo bar with cake. You could choose from several cakes and then put whatever toppings on you wanted. Pretty neat, I thought!

Today we hope to get in a favella tour (basically local housing) since it’s raining and when it clears up we will tour the more popular attractions! I hope you’re having a great Thursday!!!

Questions:

1. Have you ever been to a Brazilian Steakhouse?

-Fogo de Chao and a few others in Houston are amazing!

2. Cake or Fro Yo?

-cake with TONS of frosting.

3. What’s happening on YOUR Thursday?

Glad to hear you had safe travels!

I’ve been to a Brazilian Steakhouse a couple of times in Providence and it’s amazing. I’m also all about the cake with tons of frosting.

I’ve only been to a Brazilian steakhouse once, and this was when I was like 8. There’s a few in DC that I want to try someday.

And there’s this place at the mall called YoCake where you can get froyo topped with a cupcake!

YoCake sounds genius. That way you don’t even have to choose ;-)

Your food pictures look delicious! I am a huge fan of Fro-Yo. I would pick it over the cake, most days. I load mine up with gummies, which everyone thinks is so weird. I love it when they get all frozen and hard! Also, the fro-yo flavors are always amazing! Last week I had pumpkin!

Brazillian steakhouses are great! Bet it was even better in Brazil :)
Fro yo wins, hands down!
Today my cousin flies in from California for me to take her up to my old college this weekend and show her around. Can’t wait!

Have so much fun with your cousin! It was definitely authentically Brazilian :-) It was different because you could choose seafood or red meat!

We have a Brazilian steakhouse here in Rochester (NY) that’s relatively new. It is definitely an experience and something I felt like I needed to not eat for days prior to go there, and couldn’t eat for days after because I was still so incredibly full. But the food is fabulous- just tend to eat way more than normal!

Yes I agree! The good thing about this one was that they brought stuff a little more slowly so I didn’t feel sick when I was leaving which I appreciated!

So much cheese! Yummy! You weren’t kidding when you said that those mozzarella sticks were the size of your face.

And I love the decor of that restaurant! So quirky!

The cake bar is definitely a different idea! I’m glad you arrived safe and sound in Brazil with relatively little problems with Noah. 10 hours is a long flight especially for a little one!

I would probably choose cake with lots of frosting, too, even though I love how you can customize froyo to your hearts content. :)

I’ve only been once, and it was a lot of monies. I actually should have just stuck with the salad bar because it had a LOT of great dishes and I couldn’t even eat that much of the different meat. Everything was delicious, though!

Oh goodness gracious–this all looks so delicious! Those mozz sticks…my mouth watered looking at them.

Hope you have a great time :) I’ve always wanted to go to a local brazilian steakhouse called SAMBA but my wallet has said otherwise.

Yes they are pricey, unfortunately! If you get a chance though on a special occasion I recommend doing it once for the experience!

Loved fogo de chao – so good! But you leave SO full!! And yes to cake (duh!) with lots of frosting – however, I am super picky about the frosting to cake ratio – there can’t be too much or too little!! Have fun in Brazil – can’t wait to hear more about it. :) And I am so happy for you that Noah did well on the plane!!!!

Glad to hear you had safe travels and that you’re enjoying Brazil right now!
I’ve been to a Brazilian steakhouse with my family, and it is an immense amount of meat, but it’s all so delicious! We loved it. Especially my dad and brother ;)
It depends on what kind of cake it is, but I do love froyo!

Food is my favorite part of traveling, so I might enjoy your food pictures more than scenery!

And cake. But not too much frosting. And now that I’m thinking about it, I might need to stop and buy a cupcake after I work out.

Hello,
This looks really yummy, but as a reader and “friend” from a distance, I did notice that your plate actually seems to be pretty small portions of everything. I really proud of you for eating “new” and a good variety of foods, but your portions seem a bit too small. Also, from your pictures, you seem to be getting a tad thin. Are you dong okay?

Hi Kim!
Thanks for your comment! I appreciate your honesty! I’m not sure which plate but I’m assuming the appetizer plate from dinner? I didn’t include all the meat that they brought around because they do it slice by slice and I was enjoying the company and food rather than snapping a thousand pictures ;-) Anyway, feel free to email me or leave comments any time! I hope you have a great Friday and weekend!
