Weekend at the ranch

by Elizabeth on November 4, 2013

Let’s start this post off right, shall we? As I mentioned last week, November is the month for salted caramel cupcakes at Sprinkles. You better know that I was there at 10:01 AM right after the doors opened on the 1st day of the month to get my fix. Never mind the fact that we have 44 pounds of Halloween candy at home.

They were just as perfect as I remembered. My brother-in-law invited us out to his ranch for the weekend to hang out, fish, ride four wheelers, and most of importantly watch A&M beat UTEP Saturday night. Here was our humble abode for the weekend…

Noah was in charge of taking care of dinner for the group (of 10 adults and 5 kids). He wasted no time getting right on it.

In all seriousness, he did catch this fish on his own but then it was thrown back.

While the boys tried their hands at fishing, the girls had some quality conversations under the gazebo.

And once upon a time I brushed my hair.

My niece and nephew got hyped up on sugar and then wanted a ride on the four wheeler.

I graciously offered to take them and let’s just say we had a little too much fun.

When dinner came around we were ready and they made THE BEST bbq. I know I said that last week too but apparently I just really have a thing for bbq lately and it always tastes amazing. Jalepeno sausage to be exact. The pork ribs came in a close second.

We watched the A&M game and enjoyed cookies, cake, and white chocolate candy corn M&M’s. Perfect night.

The morning came a little too soon (babies don’t understand when you fall back it means sleep that extra hour) and I was tired so didn’t get a picture of breakfast until it was over.

We hung out outside for a bit even though it was 41 degrees when we woke up! The kids didn’t seem to mind. They are like the three musketeers who just haven’t quite learned how to share their toys with each other yet ;-)

Awesome weekend!!! Now it’s time to get all packed for Brazil! Catch ya later.

Questions:

1. Do you ever go fishing? Love it or hate it?

2. If you aren’t vegetarian, choose one? ribs, sausage, brisket, chicken? other?

3. Have you ever travelled/lived outside of the country?

My husband and I just had this talk about fishing! I love fishing it is so relaxing, but my husband finds it boring! I like turkey sausage! The only country I have been to is Canada! Looks like an awesome weekend, have a great time in Brazil!

Your BIL’s ranch is gorgeous, and it looks like you had a great time! I’ve only fished a couple of times and didn’t have very good luck. I’m sure it was the bait I was using and not my impatience that caused me to not catch a single tiny fish! ;-)

My only trip out of the US (other than Canada) was to Italy a couple of years ago. We took our sons as a college graduation gift to them. It was so much fun and we can’t wait to go back!

I will almost always choose chicken (or fish)…

That BBQ looks delicious :P I love brisket, but I think my fave is pulled pork.

I’ve lived in Germany for a summer during undergrad.

I’m a huge wimp when it comes to fishing. Not only do I feel sorry for the fish, but I don’t even like eating them, so yeah… I’ll stick to chicken, either BBQ’d or pulled.

I’m kind of with you honestly? Slimy, smelly stuff just isn’t my thing. Too bad I have a toddler? ;-)

I think I need those cupcakes! Wow. And your little guy is my big guy in the making. At almost 13, he is obsessed with fishing! Not a bad hobby, I suppose!

I haven’t gone fishing in a LONG time, but it’s a love/hate relationship. If I don’t catch anything within the first couple of minutes, I definitely lose interest FAST. Haha! I am a vegetarian but I would choose ribs, definitely! I am so proud of you for all the progress you’ve made in your recovery. It just shows more and more every week and it’s really an inspiration for me to get back to a normal way of life. :) I cannot believe you get to go to Brazil! You’re such a lucky girl!

Thanks Lauren!!! Your comment means a lot to me!!! And you CAN get there! It takes time, patience, trial, and error but it can happen :-) And I know it’s really hard to believe but once you actually do things that seem scary it’s not such a big deal! And you become free which is a priceless gift. I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Looks like such a FUN weekend! And so beautiful! I’m not really into fishing… I get bored! But I suppose it depends on who you go with. I like all of the meats you listed, but I think ribs are my favorite!

Looks like a super fun weekend! The kids are just adorable.
For meats, I would have to choose chicken or ground turkey!

I have gone fishing, am not crazy about it, but I do love fish – thank goodness for fishermen! :)
Yes, I have had a little bit of travelling around – I was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, spent my teens in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., & London and now here I am in Georgia, USA :)
