Confessions from HLS13

by Elizabeth on September 16, 2013

Why hello my long lost friends! How was your weekend? I have to be honest (after all, I titled this post “confessions”) and tell you I had one of the best and most exciting weekends I’ve had in a LONG time! I chose not to do a full recap of all of the sessions I attended since I figured you could find those on plenty of other blogs if you are interested!

Confession #1. I was nervous for the cocktail party on Friday night. Lots of new faces along with getting in late and missing out on some of the day’s earlier activities made me anxious I was going to be that creepy person standing in the corner. Alone. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case and it was a complete blast.

Confession #2. I ran. Twice. I know, I know, I said I was choosing to take time off? however the weather here was 52 on Saturday morning and we won’t get that in Texas until after Christmas so I HAD to do it. I went for a 30 minute jog in this amazing park in Saturday morning.

And Sunday we did a two mile run/walk and so I got to talk to two of my favorite bloggers in real life! Danica and Katy!

Confession #3. I used my time during Saturday’s run to be that annoying runner who puts their phone on speaker and call my husband. They were prepping for the A&M/Alabama game. He sent me these pictures and I told him he should save me some Oooh La La cupcakes if he knew what was good for him!

ImageProxy mvc

He did :-)

Confession #4. I was really nervous before my Blogger Self Care panel! It ended up going amazingly well and I had people tell me it was their favorite session of the conference :-)

Confession #5. I was a horrible blogger at a conference about how to become a better blogger. I barely took any pictures!

Confession #6. My favorite part of the entire HLS was a toss up between the free massage we got Sunday morning and this kale granola from the swag bag. The sponsors there were so generous! A HUGE thanks to Wild Harvest, Sargento, Blue Diamond, Driscolls, Refuel: Got Chocolate Milk?, Ninja, and Musselmans for the samples and snack breaks!

I was really skeptical of this stuff. In fact, the only reason I tried it was because it looked disgusting and I was going to throw them away to make more room in my suitcase. I ate the whole bag… so I guess it was a win win!

It’s always fun to connect with people who have similar passions as you do, go somewhere new and exciting, and make new lifelong friends! I hope you had a great weekend as well!

Questions:

1. Who else had a blast at HLS13? What was the highlight for you?

2. Ever tried kale? What about kale granola?

3. What’s the most beautiful place to run in your opinion?

Sorry I never got to meet you this weekend – there were just too many people and not enough time! HLS was definitely an amazing weekend though. The highlight for me was finally getting to meet some of my blog friends that I’ve “known” for years. Oh, and also that chocolate cake at Saturday’s lunch. ;)

I’ve barely even opened my swag bag yet, but I’m excited to try out that kale granola now!

I thought the kale granola was going to be disgusting too but I ended up eating the whole bag in seconds. It had great flavor!

Yay! So glad you had a great time! And I see a lot of Noah in the pictures of you! Maybe it’s him growing out of the baby phase?

I love kale!! My favourite way to have it is in a kale and mango smoothie. Best way to get lots of good stuff in and I can take it on the go! Now I’ll have to track down kale granola… :)

It’s great that you had such a good time, and that your presentation went well!

I love the beauty of running on trails through wooded areas, along the perimeter of lakes, along the beach, and along ridges with great views of the valley below. I love a run where I am constantly thanking God for the beauty that he gives us!

So glad to hear you had an awesome time, still sad that my new job prevented me from being able to attend this year but at least there are other conferences.
That kale granola sounds super interesting, I kind of want to try it.

Surprisingly, I really like kale, especially in mac and cheese. Not sure how I’d feel about it in granola. Sounds like the HLS was a blast – everyone is raving about it! I hope to be able to make it next year!

I have tried kale once. I actually made them into chips and they weren’t half bad! I wish I could have gone to the HLS13′. Hopefully next year!

It was so nice to meet you at HLS! You’re seriously one of the sweetest, most genuine people I’ve met!
p.s. I felt the same way about that kale granola – I thought it would be terrible but it’s the best “swag” thing I’ve tried yet!

I can’t imagine anyone would let you stand in the corner by yourself, you’re way too nice! I feel the same way though, I really hate going into situations by myself where I don’t know people – it makes me so scared! It’s always good to do those kind of things that scare us though. I can’t wait to attend next year, it looked like so much fun! I don’t know how I feel about that kale granola, but I’d love to give it a try! Hope to meet you next year at HLS! :)
