Austin Zoo Adventure

by Elizabeth on August 2, 2013

Yesterday we loaded up the car early in the morning and headed to Austin to visit the zoo two of my friends from college.

Meet Sloane and her neon sandals.

It ended up being a pretty small zoo, which was actually perfect for these guys’ attention span. I think Noah thought he could climb that fence to play with the monkeys. Sloane didn’t know if it was such a good idea!

After our zoo excursion we went to Whole Foods for lunch. Every time we are in Austin we made sure to stop here. Since it’s the headquarters it’s about 4 times bigger than any other Whole Foods I’ve been to and there’s a ton of variety. We all decided to get the taco bar and have lunch outside.

These faces make me incredibly happy! Thank you Christina for the amazing pictures!

They also have a MASSIVE dessert selection! I”m really thinking this lady would have given them whatever they wanted for free if we would have worked it a little better! We know now for next time…

It’s always awesome to catch up with friends and it’s hard to believe three years have passed already since college!!! I hope you have a wonderful Friday! Thanks for all the support on my posts the last two days :-)

1. Do you like Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s better?

I go to Trader Joe’s more often simply because the Whole Foods that is near us has such terrible parking that sometimes you can drive around the parking lot and never find a space! My husband works near a huge Whole Foods and eats lunch there a couple of times a week. He loves their seafood bar. He talks about it so much that I finally met him there for lunch one day. It was amazing! :-)

That is a common experience with parking at Whole Foods! Have you seen this YouTube video?

We had so much fun going to the world’s sketchiest zoo with you guys! I loved having N our personal zoo tour guide… What’s that? A cat! Sure sounds good to us ha! I can’t wait until S can carry a conversation with him! They will be able to win over the dessert lady for sure with their sweet charm! Heck I’m surprised the other lady by us didnt buy them something she stared at us taking pics for a good 10 min ha! Feel free to adventure back this way this weekend! ;-) miss you both already!

Never bought anything at Trader Joe’s, so I have to say Whole Foods. Favorite thing to get there – gelato…whoops! This weekend I’m going home for a friend’s engagement party. I’m so excited for her! This will be my first friend getting married, and I feel like I’m getting old.

Oh my gosh. Sloane’s neon sandals are basically the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Why can’t adults ever pull that stuff off;)
Well, seeing as I’ve never been to a Trader Joe’s – by default Whole Foods wins for me. I know it’s super sad I’ve never been to a TJ’s but there’s sadly none where I live or close to where I live for that matter.

I’m a TJ’s girl- everything is so much more affordable, including organic products! I typically end up doing the bulk of my shopping at TJ’s, grab a few things I can’t find elsewhere at WF’s, and then stop by a standard grocery store for whatever I can’t find at TJ’s that will be cheaper than WF’s.

we love the zoo. our membership just expired which is kinda good because i heard there is a free zoo in minneapolis that has better animals than the expensive zoo we went to.

i LOVE noah’s smile at lunch:D

it’s a toss up for stores. both have their equally great pros. i love to get avocados and trail mix and dressings and cereals at tj’s and they have great frozen stuff for good prices. whole foods is just fun to go. samples, bakery, and bulk are great!

Favorite thing to get at Whole Foods is NOT a fair question for us Canadians, since we don’t really have WF up here in Canada and usually want to stock up our suitcases with food every time we go south of the border :P But on my last haul, I picked up plenty of Justin’s AB. So.darn.good.

Aww Sloane’s sandals are AWESOME! Look at her go following in her momma’s neon footsteps :) I love Whole Foods…even though it can be pricey. I could spend well over an hour in there just wondering around, discovering new things!

Honestly I don’t have a whole lot of experience with either. But they both sound delicious!

That dessert section looks awesome and the lady in the back is the cherry on top of that picture. Too funny!!!

I take advantage of WF when I’m by one too (closest one is 45 mins away :(). And since we don’t have TJ’s in Canada, I’ll go with WF as my fave!! I love pretty much anything and everything there because it’s my zen ;) haha

I love Whole Foods for their variety (fresh seafood, olive bar, bakery, bulk section, etc. ) but sometimes I don’t love their prices. I used to go to Trader Joe’s when I lived near one, and I would opt for the cheaper versions of some items at TJ’s over WF’s, but now, I shop mostly at WF’s.

I love getting cheese. And free samples. Man, I wish my WF’s sold alcohol, because their craft beer selection is quite good :(

I don’t necessarily like WF or TJ’s better than one or the other, but WF is literally across the street… so we almost always go there instead of 20 minutes away for TJ’s. TJ’s is amazing though, and I wish it were closer to us!

Favorite thing- I always get Daiya dairy-free cheese since I’m lactose intolerant. But my favorite WF specific things are their desserts (OMG YUM!) and their salsa!

This weekend, husband and I are going on a day-date! We’re going to walk around our local farmer’s market (after a morning run and some yoga), do a wine tasting on our town square, try a new place for lunch, and a local cupcake shop! SO excited!!

I ADORE Whole Foods. It’s so yummy! Eating lunch there is so fantastic. They have the best stuff! Man, I wish there was one close. We have a TJ’s nearby, but it’s not quite the same.

My weekend agenda includes a sleepover with my friends (yeah, we’re cool like that) running and family time!

I have not been to a Trader Joes but would if I lived closer. That sounds like my dream Whole Foods.

19 Jenn August 2, 2013 at 8:48 pm

I love whole foods but trader joes is just economically smarter! Can’t argue with their dessert section though!

We don’t have a whole foods by us…I love Trader Joe’s but even they are 40 minutes away! I only like TJ’s a little better because their prices are better…but whole foods once in awhile is fun too! :).
We are going camping on Sun till next Sat!!!! I am excited. It is only kinda cmaping since we are staying in a cabin…but I am not a very good tent camper so this makes me excited!!! It is called Crescent lake Bible camp in WI. There are tons of activities ect! I can’t wait, I just wish it wasn’t 9 hours away!!!
