#BlogSmarter recap!

by Elizabeth on July 19, 2013

Good morning and Happy Friday! I hope you have some fun and relazation planned for the weekend! Our #BlogSmarter Twitter chat was a huge success on Wednesday!!! Here is a recap in case you missed it but are looking for ways to grow your blog.

  • Q1: How do you increase traffic and “fans” on your other social media networks, like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.?
  • Be genuine, different, and consistent
  • Comment on other blogs with meaningful comments, respond to tweets, post content you would like to read
  • Reply to commenters on your own blog
  • Pin your own pictures to Pinterest
  • Be PATIENT! Building a good following takes time!
  • Q2: What are your thoughts on guest blogging? When should you agree to guest blog? When is it okay to say no?
  • Most people seemed to appreciate guest bloggers
  • Blog for someone you know and respect
  • It’s OK to say no if you simply don’t have time
  • It’s a great way to find new readers
  • People love to read an inspiring story!
  • Q3: What are some ways to encourage reader comments?
  •  Ask questions at the end, respond to your readers comments
  • Ask readers to post links to their favorite recipes if relevant
  • Be honest, real, and GENUINE.
  • Q4: Giveaways: What tips do you have for hosting successful giveaways on your blog? What tools do you use to ensure the winner is selected most fairly, etc.?
  • Rafflecopter is fair, free, and easy for you and your readers!
  • Giveaway stuff that you have tried/use regularly/love.
  • Giveaway things that relate to your blogs content.
  • Q5: What times of day have you found to be most effective for driving traffic to your blog? Does consistency matter?
  • Consistency matters! Posting at the same time of day drives more traffic.
  • It seems that people found what THEIR readers respond too. some blogs have higher traffic in the morning, some at night. It comes back to being consistent so people know what to expect!

Questions:

What was your reasoning for starting a blog?

What are some ways you’ve increased readership?

Thanks for those tips!
I started blogging to hold myself accountable, and because I’ve always wanted to keep a diary/journal. This kills two birds with one stone!
I have also found that commenting on others’ blogs and responding to comments on your own blog helps keep the traffic flowing. I’m still super new at this, though.

Glad it was another success! :)
Thanks for sharing all the tips you got. It’s so frustrating being over in the UK and asleep when everything works in American-time!
My reason for starting a blog was to look at how to improve my running performance – and seeing what foods worked well or not so well in the lead up to races. It helped enormously!

Great round up of tips. I unfortunately couldn’t make it this round – but always love looking at the tweets to recap.
I always think it’s important to comment on others blogs and interact with readers and other bloggers. It seems to help a lot. As well as on social media.

Ugh so hate I missed Wednesday night. I was busy packing for vacation. Thanks for the recap. I have thought about pinning my own pictures before but didn’t want to seem weird, guess if others are doing it then I will too…

Great tips! The biggest thing I have found is, if I want people to interact with me then I need to interact with them. Comment on posts, seek to get to know other bloggers and genuinely take an interest in others.

Thanks so much for offering to help others get their blog going! I just started mine this past week and have a lot to learn. I started mine for my own accountability, to hopefully inspire others, and to connect with other runners. I really don’t have many runner friends, and the friends I do have and my family really don’t want to hear me talk about it all the time. Crazy, I know! Thanks again!

I started blogging, because I enjoyed reading blogs about health and fitness. I wanted to share my own thoughts and day to day activity, but was scared because I didn’t know where to start. Overall, I am so happy I jumped into it!
