Workouts, races, and a severe balancing problem.

by Elizabeth on June 26, 2013

The fact that the heat index is 103 in Houston can’t keep our family from getting in some solid workouts.

If you’ve never done jumping lunges with a child you should. It will make you that much stronger in races!

Speaking of races? let the training begin :-)

I know, I know, I have a severe problem being balanced with things. I went to Chick fil a for lunch yesterday. And then again for dinner. And I have a lunch date scheduled with my sister in law today at? you guessed it? Chick fil a. Their spicy chicken sandwich is pretty much what I think heaven might be like. Does the fact that I got it on a wheat bun count for anything health wise?

I bought this cookie dough on clearance the other day and since I have already eaten half of the package without actually making cookies, I figured I’d slap 3 in the oven and save the remaining dough for myself.

Not the healthiest of days food wise but for me, not being “healthy” is really healthy. Does that make sense?

Have a great Wednesday my friends!

What’s your workout for today?

What’s your favorite “fast food” place?

Who else eats cookie dough rather than making cookies?.

I get that unhealthy=healthy.

Today’s work out- 8 x 600′s in the pouring rain.
I use to LOVE Taco Bell and as a vegetarian it was one of the few places I could find food. Now I won’t let myself eat there because it’s a downward spiral of bean and 7 layer burritos.

“Not the healthiest of days food wise but for me, not being ?healthy? is really healthy. Does that make sense?”
TOTAL SENSE! I still struggle with this! And the worst part is that I hate letting myself eat anything unhealthy, and my weight doesn’t even go down.. I have nothing to show for it :(

Workout(s) of the day: Easy 4 mile run this morning before work. 5 mile tempo run or interval run after work (haven’t decided between the two. Probably depends how hot it is! Georgia is mid 80s to low 90s now- not as hot as Texas, but close!)

Hands down, Chick-fil-a is THE BEST fast food place ever. I love their breakfast (although I never let myself eat it) and their grilled chicken sandwich. Is it weird I like the grilled chicken sandwich more than the original..? And those fries! YUM!

And cookie dough rarely makes it to my oven either, no worries. Husband judges, but it’s the best dessert ever. Much better than bakes cookies!

I love Pillsbury’s “Simply” brand. No HFCS, no preservatives, lots of deliciousness. Still not healthy, but less chemicals! I ran five slow miles this morning. The humidity kills me, but it seems to dwindle during the day and I’m debating becoming a night runner. I’m not sure that will happen because I have less motivation during the day and my morning run sets the tone for my day. I think Subway is my favorite fast food place…

I used to only make cookies to eat the cookie dough. My college roommates and I would hardly ever cook the cookies, or we would make only 3 or 4 cookies and eat the rest of the dough.

I had no idea! Thanks for letting me know… this means I need to go eat the rest of the dough for snack now ;-)

In my opinion, making cookies is a waste of perfectly good cookie dough :)

Congrats on getting into the Houston Marathon! I got in for the half. Its been a GREAT lottery year! Tons of my friends got in!

Yesterday was a tough track speed workout, so today is a nice rest day and I have a date with my favorite 5 year old to play “Life” when we get home! Chick-fil-A is my favorite fast food place! I love <3 their Market Salad.

My kids request we make cookie dough specifically….. NOT cookies….. Sugar Cookie dough to be exact. I'm totally ok with that. We usually make a double batch of dough, so they can eat some and we can make some! :)

Happy Wednesday!

It makes perfect sense. I went through a phase like that as well, so I totally get it… sometimes we’ve just gotta do what’s healthy for our minds.

McD’s will always hold a special place in my heart, especially with their fries and sweet n sour sauce, and I’d eat a lot more cookie dough if raw eggs weren’t involved. As it stands, I kind of have a fear of food poisoning, so I usually bake my cookies.

Oh gosh, I’m ALL ABOUT the cookie dough. As much as I love cookies, I love cookie dough even more. Sometimes that’s the reason why I make cookies… just for the dough. ;)

Yay!!! Congrats on getting into the marathon!!!! I totally agree that when you have struggled with food the “healthy” line blurs/disappears and it is really more important to get rid of those food rules and fears! You go girl! Ps- I usually eat more cookie dough than actual cookie too haha ;)

I’m guilty of the whole cookie dough eating thing! Here’s a tip for you… Bake your cookies, but save some cookie dough. Then make a sandwich with two baked cookies with a slice of cookie dough between them. Try it and tell me what you think! I guarantee you will LOVE it! :-)

Congrats on getting into the Houston Marathon!

I totally get what you mean that being “healthy” is not all that healthy and vice versa. Sometimes we just need to be healthy minded as well and that means indulging in some good ol’ fast food. No guilt, just eat it and be done.
Since I can’t eat eggs – I definitely eat the cookie dough. Sometimes I don’t even make the cookies;)

I love Chick-fil-A more than I can express. There is no Chick-fil-A in the entire state where I live now, so count your blessings that you can eat it three times a day.

Not sure if I’ll ever run a full, but will live vicariously through you! Congrats!

You crack me up! Chick-Fil-A = best fast food eva!!! Good food, good service, good ice cream. ;-) My husband about lost it the other day when he found out you could buy a whole container of their ranch. He’s rather the ranch connoisseur.

Congrats on getting into Houston, that’s so exciting! I hear on Friday if I got into the NWM half. I have no race that I’m training for right now and I need to change that. And i’m glad I’m not the only one that buys cookie dough with minimal intention of actually baking it :)

I agree with your sentiment–being too “healthy” can be really unhealthy and it’s good to indulge once in a while. My favorite fast food place is Taco Bell. Awful for you, but oh so delicious. My workout was a 5 mile recovery run, so I got in some nice, easy miles. Have a great evening!

This is funny…I actually have a habit of eating a ton of a food that I like until I am sick of it and then I don’t eat it again for a long time :)!
I don’t know if I have a favorite fast food place…I have favorites foods but at different places…example
1. frostys at Wendys—LOVE!
2. McDonalds fries —-YUM!
hmmmm….none of these are good for me….
3. Mcdonalds fruit and yogurt parfait :)…there is my healthy thing!

3. No…not really. I do love making almond butter no bake energy bites. :) I will eat straight dark chocolate chips all the time!

Congrats on the Houston entry. I will be running too. I am excited to see the new course since they have made some modifications for this years race….although the joint half/full start may make the first few miles a little more nuts!

It has been so hot, I don’t know how people can survive Houston summers without a swimming pool nearby!
