Chopped it off!

by Elizabeth on May 1, 2013

And I’m not looking back! For the first time in 10+ years I was actually HAPPY with how a haircut went! I don’t know if it’s because my previous haircutters all did a terrible job (unlikely), I am super picky (definitely), or just less attached to things being a certain way than I used to be (hopefully)! I also got highlights but you can’t even tell and I think I’m ok with that for now… one thing at a time, right?

Good thing I have this picture for the archives because never again will my hair look like it did after someone else styled it. Part of that might have to do with the fact that she used more products in one hour than I use in a year. I got confused just watching her do it… I’ll stick with my running pony tail and hopefully shower/shampoo most days (sorry Joe, you know you love it ;-) ).

How lucky is Noah… didn’t even have to pay for those highlights.

I have another confession because I’m sure the showering one just wasn’t enough for you. I LOVE Crossfit! This is coming from the person who literally scheduled classes or pretended she scheduled classes in college at the same time as we were supposed to be in the weight room. I hope the coaches aren’t reading…. P.S. to my sister in law Lindsey who was on the rowing team at the Naval Academy: I have a whole new respect for you. I rowed for 5 minutes as a warm up and when I got off of the machine my arms didn’t come with me. You amaze me.

On to food :-) For lunch I had a wrap with some spicy southwest mustard and it was amazing.

Dinner was an egg, cheese, and vegetable scramble with a side of quinoa. We. will. never. run. out…

Dessert was a microwaved banana bread quest bar. Yum.

Questions:

1. If you are a weight lifter, how long did it take you to feel stronger?

2. It’s too bad you can leave pictures in the comments… so tell me about your hair: short, long, straight, curly, dark, light, natural, platinum bleach blonde?

I was a runner my whole life as well, ran for SMU in college. I starte cross fit 2 months ago and I am just now seeing improvement and results. But I was very weak at the beginning, everything was hard for me but once you start to get stronger it’s all worth it so stick it out!

How cool! When were you at SMU?? We were in the same region for a while!

Bens also lucky in that I wear my hair wavy ALL the time bc it’s so easy. I’m pretty sure he prefers it straight based on the number of compliments he gives me when I actually do it but I’d rather run longer in the morning. ;)

My hair is long and entirely too thick! I basically rock pony everyday. I’m in desperate need of a hair cut, but every time I get one I come home feeling like I got too much cut off! This is usually the cycle until I get so bored with it that I chop it all off. Your cut looks great!

I’m at an in between stage with may hair…grrr. I donated it last year when I turned 30 then decided I wanted to grow it back out. I’m not loving it now because it isn’t in the short style I had when I got it cut but it isn’t long either, hopefully by the end of the summer it will be better? Yours looks cute!

Your hair looks great!! And that wrap looks delicious haha.

I have long, brown, super straight hair! It hasn’t been this long since I was in elementary school! But I think I”m going to cut in the summer because it’s a lot to handle :P

Your hair looks great! I have thick, curly hair that is currently getting a little crazy. I just made an appointment to get it cleaned up this weekend. I’m so looking forward to the post-haircut hand massage. :-)

I love your hair! Such a pretty cut! mine had been long for forever but i chopped it a couple months ago thinking it would be easier to manage, and i was wrong. i think short hair is harder. anyways its now at an awkward length so i’m hoping it grows back soon.

I used to love weights and hate cardio. Now I’ve completely flipped. I need to work on finding balance! My hair is medium-long, super fine and I’ve been highlighting it since I was 13. Poor hair :(

I love your new haircut! But even more so the dress you’re wearing in the picture! My hair is so boring, long and brown. I wear it in a ponytail 99% of the time, and when I do wear it down, it goes back up almost immediately. Runner probs…

Girl! Your hair looks gorgeous :D And kudos to you for taking the plunge and making a big change to your ‘do. I’ve been tempted to make a drastic change to my hair on a few occasions, but I always chicken out…

How cute!! You’re so gorgeous. And that’s so fun that you love crossfit! I hear its ridiculous

My hair is so weird. The sun highlights the outside of my hairline bc I wear ponytails so much. It’s blonder all around my head and darker in the middle

Yay crossfit! I started in January…it’s so fun! I like the whole cheering for others part since we don’t really do that in yoga. My only advice is to focus on your form when lifting before jumping up too fast in weight…it’s easy to push yourself just a little too far and get injured. I started getting noticeably stronger after about a month I think. OH AND MOST IMPORTANTLY YOUR HAIR LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!

Crossfit and yoga are like complete opposites haha. And the one I go to in the morning is mostly moms… we aren’t exactly the hyped up, super muscular, throwing barbells around type but I do want to go to a class like that soon :-) Thanks for the advice! I’ve been having them watch me do it all so I know I’m doing it right.

i love you hair cut! looks amazing! but you are looking much thinner then usual. not sure if it is the pic or if you lost weight. i know its bad to comment on appearance, and i am only doing so to express my concern E.

I really do appreciate your concern! Just to ease your mind, I went to the doctor on Monday and she was happy with where I’m at weight wise. I also see a dietician biweekly. I admire your honesty and ability to speak up!

I am trying REALLY hard to get into weights…it’s hard for me to set the routine!

My hair is naturally curly, but I straighten it because it’s out of control! In the summer, it is in a bun 24/7. :)

My hair is short, a sort of strawberry blond, brownish color. It’s natural..I’ve never dyed my hair or anything! It just kind of does it’s own thing, but because my hair is so thick and I have a ton of it, it actually lays really nicely when it’s short.

Your hair looks GORGEOUS! Love it :D

i can see the highlights in there. it’s a beautiful look and still long. my hair is 1/2 asian and 1/2 american red fro. make sense? ya, me neither. so it is pretty much a frizzy, wavy mess. and i’m going gray (thanks dad).
i started weight lifting in high school and have been doing it ever since so i don’t remember how i felt after. it was too long ago. but i will say i absolutely feel stronger after each and every session!

Look at the smile on that little guy!

I LOVE the new haircut! I usually only cut mine once a year or so because my hair is super thick and I feel like it gets WAY too frizzy when I leave it short!

Your hair looks great :) I tend to go through extremes – I will grow it to about mid back and then chop it all off – super short, can’t even pull it back and then start all over again :) it keeps it interesting and then it feels like I always have a new style!

I am definitely more of a runner! In the last year I have tried to incorporate more strength workouts since all I ever used to do was cardio, and I am so glad I have done this! Running just isn’t enough.

My hair is pretty long and straight. It is dark brown. I want to change things up, but I am such a scaredy cat when it comes to my hair. :)

Yay for loving Crossfit!!! Your hair looks great! Mine is blond with blonder highlights… shoulder length, but always long enough for a ponytail when I run or train clients. It’s curly, but I flat iron it straight. I know… If it was straight, I’d curl it! :-)

Wow, you look so different in that first picture. What a difference a hair style makes. I know what you mean about the products. I usually ask them not to style my hair, so I can skip the 10 lbs of product in my hair.

I got my hair cut recently (about 4 inches off) and old me woulda died, but new me knew I needed the cut and I didn’t miss it at all! Unfortunately, I couldn’t say the same for my highlights…they turned out SO wrong, so now I’m seeing a DIFFERENT hairdresser next friday to fix things up!!!

I’ve been seriously strength training for 2 months and after the first month I could lift much more….it’s so exciting to get stronger AND know it will help us as runners! Also super glad to see you microwaved your Quest bar:)

I know how you feel about haircuts, I usually dread it because I’m usually never satisfied with how it turns out. Your hair looks GREAT, by the way ;)

My hair is pretty long and straight, about half way down my back. It’s naturally black (or really dark brown?), but I colored it myself about a year ago, and since it grew out a lot, it looks ombre. It’s funny how ombre got so popular, and I unintentionally got my hair like that.
