This post is mostly a random compilation of thoughts and pictures? just go with it. 

I talked a bit two weeks back about changing the way I spend my time. I wanted to do a little update and let you know how things are going!

My two main goals were to spend less time on social media and to take a step back from blogging a bit (funny I’m sitting here typing this). Initially, staying off social media except during times I had designated for myself was really hard. Like I said, I was mindlessly scrolling through Instagram, Facebook, or blogs I follow constantly. Like most anything, the more you practice the better you get. I intentionally leave my phone behind sometimes so I’m not even tempted to get on. 

The Results:

1. I feel more engaged in my life and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on important moments and interactions with REAL people (although I still want to have pictures of Noah :-) ). For instance:

2. I think social media was almost becoming an addiction for me. What if I missed something “important”? What if I offended someone by not liking or commenting on a post? What if I wasn’t aware of everything everyone else was doing??? I had to make friends with “SO WHAT”. And it’s so freeing. 

3. I’m actually reading real books, enjoying movies, praying, or simply just sitting and relaxing instead of spending almost all of my free time on the internet. I honestly didn’t realize how much stimulation I was bombarding my brain with!

4. I feel LESS bored. I thought it would be the opposite and I would be wondering what to do with myself. Turns out there are lots of other awesome things going on (especially at donut shops). Who would have thought?

5. I know I’m making changes for the better and setting a good example for my kids. Which really feels good.

These were delivered to our doorstep on Saturday! Apparently Joe ordered them from our sweet little neighbor and forgot to tell me? sometimes the fact that men are forgetful works to our advantage, right ;-) ? Awesome start to the day for me!

Backing up to Friday, I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed stalking everyone’s Valentine’s Day pictures throughout the day. Noah and I made the most of the beautiful weather we had. After I saw the chiropractor we went on a walk around a nearby lake (the doctor told me not to stay stationary for long periods of time or the muscles in my hip and butt lock up? not the easiest thing to do when you’re in a lot of pain but it is starting to feel better as I’ve been walking more!)

After the walk a Valentine’s Day cookie date was on the agenda. We stopped at Nestle Tollhouse for some treats.

Cookie sandwiches with frosting in the middle are high on my favorite dessert list. Why I don’t just under bake some cookies and frost them myself to save $4 is a really good question.

We also spent some time at the park? There was no way we were going inside when it was sunny and the high was in the 70s!

When I was a kid, at certain holidays my grandparents would send each family with grandkids a holiday-themed package filled with candy. My sisters and I would get SO excited to open our packages at Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Halloween to see what kind of goodies we received. My mom decided to continue the tradition with her grandkid(s). We took Noah’s very first holiday package with us to the park so he could open it there.

And he was just a little bit excited?. Thank you, grandma!!!

I may have overdone our Valentine’s Day activities a bit because by the time I was ready to take him to my mother in law’s for the evening so Joe and I could celebrate he told me his tummy still hurt and didn’t want to go. That’s crazy talk for Noah so I knew he really didn’t feel well. Joe and I ended up ordering BWW and enjoying the romance of our kitchen table :-)

In all honesty, I can’t think of anything more I’d have wanted out of this day.

Saturday we had beautiful weather again so we went on a family walk that morning. CVS happened to be along the way and guess what’s 50% off the day after Valentine’s Day? ALL THE CANDY!!!

Don’t worry we picked up lots of other stuff too, this was just the highlight. I think I’m going to start celebrating holidays the day after? we got some really awesome deals!

My parents came over later in the afternoon to hang out with us. My mom brought over a few things she’s picked up for the baby. You can see why I haven’t bought a thing yet… This is the stuff that won’t fit in the baby clothes closet at her house:

Sunday was super low key! We went to mass, relaxed, walked to a park, Joe grilled some steaks, and we watched the Olympics. Time for another week! Make it a great one!

Baby Sauvageau: 25 Weeks

Hello and Happy Valentine’s Day!!! It’s time for the weekly pregnancy update. I can’t believe next Saturday starts the third trimester. Time definitely isn’t slowing down and I haven’t done much to prepare for this little girl to make an appearance besides moving Noah out of the nursery and into a big boy bed in January. He did great with the transition! At the same time, newborns don’t enter the world demanding your have a perfectly decorated nursery and everything in order? Hopefully my nesting instinct will kick in soon anyway :-)

Baby’s size: Cauliflower? and she’s a very active little cauliflower at that!

 Maternity clothes? Yes! Always? except for that one time and I paid for it

Stretch marks? None yet! The varicose veins on my legs are pretty incredible though.

Sleep: It was actually really good (relatively speaking) this week! I think the combination of being sick and taking care of a sick kid wore me out enough to make it comfortable. When I’m not pregnant I sleep on my stomach with no pillow. It’s been a different experience sleeping on my side/back with several pillows to get comfortable but I think I’ve found a good, comfortable position now!

Best moment this week: Getting over being sick, feeling the baby kick like crazy, talking to one of my best friends (Leigh, she just had her second baby!) for a while yesterday, my back feeling better, and the PERFECT weather we’ve had the past two days! It’s sunny and the highs are in the 60s.

Miss anything? Again, being pain free. 

Movement: Yes! And she’s big enough now where if she kicks hard enough it actually hurts a little haha! It’ll be interesting to see if she’s a busybody when she’s born too.

Food Cravings: I want GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! Where are they?!? I swear I have seen them out and about for weeks and now that I want some cookies there isn’t a girl scout to be found in the state of Texas. In all seriousness, this week I noticed I wanted a lot of carbs. Cereals, bread, pasta, cake, cookies? Maybe because they’re easier to digest when you don’t feel so hot. Yesterday I got a really strong craving for Buffalo Wild Wings boneless wings so I’m pretty sure our Valentine’s Day plans include some fried chicken. Classy, eh? 

Anything making you queasy or sick? Yes, I will spare you the details from earlier in the week. It wasn’t pregnancy related though…

Gender: Girl!!!

Labor Signs: None!

Symptoms: Mainly just the back pain still. I feel pretty great/happy otherwise! 

Belly Button ? in or out?  In, and getting flatter haha!

Wedding Rings ? on or off? On!

Happy or Moody? Happy with the direction things are heading :-)

Hello and happy Thursday! I hope your week has included more wellness than our’s has… After we got rid of the stomach bug on Monday and Noah seemed almost back to normal I left to pick him up from school yesterday afternoon and by the time we were back home I was achy, feverish, and had the chills. I thought it was the flu but it seems to have mostly passed this morning. Hopefully the worst is gone and we will all stay well for Valentine’s day and the weekend :-) Who has some fun plans? We’ve still been doing some fun activities despite being under the weather.

Good morning! I had a few extra minutes this morning so wanted to see how you all were doing and also thank you for the tremendous support you showed me after Friday’s post! We had an extremely low key weekend which was wonderful! We got in a family walk and brought bread to feed the ducks.

On Sunday, however, our family caught the stomach bug and it was not pretty! Noah’s been sick of course but not like that. We spent yesterday recovering and it worked out perfectly because the weather here is nasty. I can’t wait until spring! I have been managing to see the chiropractor almost daily and my back pain is slowly but surely improving! I would be thrilled to be 90% pain free by next week :-)

I did manage to do some baking on Sunday. I had a brownie mix from TJ that needed to be used, so I mixed it with a can of black beans and two eggs just to see how it would turn out. Honestly, they aren’t bad if you undercook them a bit. They’re just not as sweet and rich as a traditional brownie. I tried to make Joe guess what the secret ingredient was and he had no idea… Today we are headed to a new Costco they opened a few minutes away and prepping for Noah’s Valentine’s day party at school tomorrow :-) Have a great Tuesday!!!

Pull up a chair and pour a cup (pot?) of coffee. This is one of those lengthy posts where we all laugh, cry, get angry, get happy again, and we all feel a little closer after reading it?.


Baby Sauvageau: 24 Weeks. 

Baby?s size? A cantaloupe! Yum :-)

Maternity clothes? Yes! Always? except for that one time and I paid for it

Stretch marks? None yet! And this is totally random (sort of, keep reading) but in addition to the Bio Oil I’ve been using daily, I also recently bought some Maracuja Oil from Tarte Cosmetics. Every night I apply it to my face and after two weeks my fine lines and wrinkles are basically gone. My mom saw me a few days after I started using it and asked me if I got Botox. I actually bought it because the salesperson told me it helped with acne (and it does, I haven’t broken out since) but what it does for wrinkles has been amazing. That was just a random tidbit I needed to share with you while I was thinking about oil haha.

Sleep: Still not great but since I don’t wake up early to run anymore, it’s not a huge deal.

Best moment this week: There were several!!!!

My 24 week appointment and glucose test went great on Wednesday!

The doctor was really pleased. The only thing that I will be doing differently (read more below) is focusing on getting in more calories. I’ll be honest, the first half of the pregnancy I was right on track. I gained 10 pounds which was the exact number the dietitian and doctor wanted. The past 4-5 weeks it’s slowed. If I can gain almost a pound a week from here on out I will hit the recommended 25 lbs. I know it doesn’t have to be exactly the right decimal at 40 weeks and it’s not all about a number but I’ve decided that increasing my treatment attendance again is the best way to get/keep myself on track. I DECIDED THIS FOR MYSELF. The doctor didn’t tell me to do it. My dietitian and Joe didn’t tell me to do it (although of course they support it). Last time, family and friends forced me into inpatient and it was needed. This time, I think it would be helpful to have more support and I am more than willing to take help when I need it for a healthy baby. 

I’m sure I’ll receive a lot of judgment and ridicule for not being able to “just do it” or for “needing more help when I’m pregnant” but you know what, everyone has struggles. My baby IS my priority and that’s evidence by my actions. 

Other good moments (it feels good to do decide to do the right thing rather than being forced ;) )

Deciding to cut WAY back on social media/electronics/blogging and focus on being with Noah. We’ve had a pretty great week together and inside I feel like a more fulfilled mom/wife and person. Wednesday I didn’t check anything blog or social media related at all. I think my new habits around electronics will be: 

1. Nothing while Noah is awake. For several reasons? one that it takes away from my time with him and others we are with. I also don’t want him to see his mom glued to her phone constantly. I got to where I was checking it in line at the store, in waiting rooms, at home on the couch during our family time, and pretty much whenever I felt like it. The purge has been SO helpful and extremely refreshing.

2. Blog when I feel like it. Blogging takes a lot of time and then I feel like I don’t have enough or I feel stressed about doing it. I say I’m “so busy” when really often I just manage my time poorly. I sat down, thought long and hard about my priorities, and as much as I love you guys when I blog constantly it takes away from valuable time I have with the ones I mean the most. So my posts will become less frequent but I still plan to check in maybe a few times a week?

Miss anything? Oh goodness, I miss being pain free. The amount of pain in my back is unbearable at times and I am unable to walk. Thank goodness for good chiropractic care, hot baths, a helpful husband and family, and Tylenol. Like I mentioned Wednesday, I know it will get back to normal eventually and in the really painful moments I imagine holding my baby girl in a few months. It”ll be totally worth it. 

Movement: Yes, always. And I love it. Seriously it’s one of the coolest feelings I’ve ever had.

Food Cravings: None specially, just going to eat more in general! I kind of got on a Kind bar and sea salt kick (and yes, they do make a kind bar WITH sea salt, this just isn’t it.) The chili in this one caught my eye…

When we refocus and remember we don’t have to rely on our own strength, the mountain seems climbable and we can take it a day at a time. God is always right there with us guiding us down the right path. It’s totally doable (and exciting!) at that point.

Sorry for my absence since last Thursday! This is one of my longest periods of time to go without blogging (surely you felt it ;) ). It wasn’t planned; time just kind of got away from me and when I sat down at the end of the day I didn’t have the motivation to write. Eh, it is what it right? 

Here are a few things we’ve been up to this past week:

Moving: My in-laws moved into their new home last Thursday so we have spent some time (in my case, only unpacking boxes) helping them get settled in! I have a feeling many hours will be spent in this exact location!

Cooking: For the Super Bowl Party we went to at their new house on Sunday I made cookie dough cheesecake brownies! It was from a Duncan Hines mix (gasp) and they were doughy and perfect. Since Joe’s family used to live outside of Denver they were cheering for the Broncos? yikes. At least they had my baking to ease the pain.

I also have been playing around with some of my pins on Pinterest and using the recipes as dinner inspiration. I rarely follow a recipe as it’s posted, I always tweak things a bit and usually it turns out pretty good. Monday night I tried a buffalo chicken/cheese/rice/broccoli casserole. It also had one half with bleu cheese on top? FTW!

Playing: It’s becoming more and more real to me how soon I will have two babies to mother physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually so my time will be divided. It goes without saying that I couldn’t be happier and I’m also trying to cherish each day with Noah where he is still my only child! I became pretty dependent on technology over the course of this pregnancy from being tired, moody, etc. so last Wednesday I decided to reign it back in and limit us to half an hour or TV/iPad time a day. Instead of putting it on for Noah when I want to zone out I play with him, read, do crafts, sing, or heck if I’ve run out of things on my list I use trusty old Google to provide me with ideas. 

Playroom picnics? because why should you always have to sit in a high chair?

Enjoying more time outside while the weather is nice (and mommy’s back wasn’t hurt!)

Other things that I HAVEN’T been up to are running, yoga, or any kind of exercise. I have reached the same point in pregnancy that I did with Noah (25-26 weeks) where sciatica leaves me basically immobile. Watching me walk isn’t pretty. Just like last time, I got out of bed on Monday morning and my the left side of my back/hip/leg are excruciatingly painful to walk on. Running or anything else would be a complete joke. I want to cry just thinking about attempting it. Baby girl has positioned herself right on a nerve. Luckily when I was pregnant with Noah I saw a chiropractor a few times a week and was able to get back to normal although it took about a month. It’s hard this time since he needs me and I’m limited on what I can do. Either way, it’s worth the pain and I have help when I need it so I’m extremely grateful! 

Off to see a chiropractor this morning and then headed to the OB for my 24 week appointment! Bring it on glucose test :-)

Baby?s size? Last week it was a papaya and this week it’s a large mango. I don’t know about you but after following this I need a Hawaiian vacation, a lei, and some pineapple.

Maternity clothes? Yes! Always? except for that one time and I paid for it

Stretch marks? None yet!

Sleep: Pretty terrible honestly. I haven’t been running before Joe leaves in the morning simply because it takes me quite a while to settle down and actually fall asleep. I don’t know if that’s helping or hurting the sleep situation.

Best moment this week: Waking up yesterday morning and noticing a huge baby growth spurt! There will be a big difference in this week’s and next week’s pictures (I usually take them on Friday.) 

Miss anything? Not that I can think of really!

Movement: Yes, I love that it’s visible from the outside! Sometimes I’m sure everyone around me can see it…

Food Cravings: I had another great week getting in lots of healthy foods (please ignore the cookie dough cupcakes in the previous post ;) ) My staples have still been lots of fruits, giant green salads with different types of lettuce, nuts (pistachios, pumpkin seeds, almonds, cashews), cheeses (usually bleu or goat), and sometimes red meat as well. Meat definitely isn’t something I’ve been wanting a ton of and usually I am a meat eater. I’ve also been loving my trail mixes and dark chocolate almonds. 

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope.

Gender: Girl!!!

Labor Signs: None!

Symptoms: Lower back pain lives on. As far as easing it goes I’ve been using heat and Tylenol. I also get rib pain when I sit for too long but that’s easily reversible.

Happy or Moody? I’m just going to be honest and say both…

Thanks so much for all of the great reading suggestions yesterday! I can’t wait to try some out. Schools were cancelled again here in Houston yesterday (although there wasn’t any ice or snow where we are?) My mom sent me this picture of the snow they got a little further north. Check it out!

As I mentioned, Joe worked from home which really threw Noah off. He didn’t understand why daddy was home and couldn’t play with him! I packed up our things and took him to play at the mall play place so he could burn off some energy!

A family on our street had their third baby last week so everyone signed up to bring them a dinner for a few weeks, I remember how incredibly helpful it was when people brought us meals after Noah was born so I was more than happy to help! We started with the most important part of any meal: dessert. 

Noah helped me make Valentine’s cookie dough cupcakes and we had such a blast. This kid loves sprinkles! To make them, I simply whipped up a boxed funfetti cake mix (what kid doesn’t love funfetti? Heck, I love funfetti), poured it into the cupcake tins, dropped a ball of pre made cookie dough into them, and cooked, frosted, and decorated them! So easy!

For the main meal, I made a creamy pesto chicken pasta dish. Half for their family, half for ours! They texted later on to say that their girls were asking to bring it in their lunches the next day so I think it was a hit. Or else they were just trying to make me feel good ;-) Either way, it worked. 

A few posts back, I blogged about a few parenting tips I’ve learned in therapy. Yesterday I came across this article and I also found it very informative! Any parents (or anyone really) might also get something useful out of it!

That moment in Body Pump 88 where you squat and rip your (non-maternity? it’s my own fault) yoga pants. I think that hurt more than the 140 triceps reps we did. 

I decided to forgo yoga yesterday morning and try out the new release class. The class was awesome just not for my pants! The timing was perfect because just when I was learning all the music/what to expect rep wise in the older body pump class it all changed! They say it’s best to keep your muscles guessing, right? 

As long as the roads aren’t icy today I plan to go to yoga. If not I’ll get it done at home! Joe is working from the house today so that’s a nice treat!

As I was reading some of my regular blogs yesterday I came across a link to this recipe and knew right away I had to make it ASAP! As I mentioned in my last pregnancy update post I’ve been making a conscious effort to eat less velveeta (read less, not none? I had some yesterday at dinner) and more nutrient dense foods. So behold, chocolate chip dessert hummus!

The hardest part was cleaning out the food processor ;-) In other breaking news, I think we decided on some bedding for our sweet baby girl’s room! It’s completely cliche and I’m sure a billion other nurseries look exactly like this and I couldn’t care less. I love it.

I still have the giraffe print wall I painted for Noah so I’m going to incorporate little animals as well! It feels good to check stuff (ok, one thing) off the baby to do list!
