Week 24: I just needed more.

Pull up a chair and pour a cup (pot?) of coffee. This is one of those lengthy posts where we all laugh, cry, get angry, get happy again, and we all feel a little closer after reading it?.

Baby Sauvageau: 24 Weeks. 

Baby?s size? A cantaloupe! Yum :-)

Maternity clothes? Yes! Always? except for that one time and I paid for it

Stretch marks? None yet! And this is totally random (sort of, keep reading) but in addition to the Bio Oil I’ve been using daily, I also recently bought some Maracuja Oil from Tarte Cosmetics. Every night I apply it to my face and after two weeks my fine lines and wrinkles are basically gone. My mom saw me a few days after I started using it and asked me if I got Botox. I actually bought it because the salesperson told me it helped with acne (and it does, I haven’t broken out since) but what it does for wrinkles has been amazing. That was just a random tidbit I needed to share with you while I was thinking about oil haha.

Sleep: Still not great but since I don’t wake up early to run anymore, it’s not a huge deal.

Best moment this week: There were several!!!!

My 24 week appointment and glucose test went great on Wednesday!

The doctor was really pleased. The only thing that I will be doing differently (read more below) is focusing on getting in more calories. I’ll be honest, the first half of the pregnancy I was right on track. I gained 10 pounds which was the exact number the dietitian and doctor wanted. The past 4-5 weeks it’s slowed. If I can gain almost a pound a week from here on out I will hit the recommended 25 lbs. I know it doesn’t have to be exactly the right decimal at 40 weeks and it’s not all about a number but I’ve decided that increasing my treatment attendance again is the best way to get/keep myself on track. I DECIDED THIS FOR MYSELF. The doctor didn’t tell me to do it. My dietitian and Joe didn’t tell me to do it (although of course they support it). Last time, family and friends forced me into inpatient and it was needed. This time, I think it would be helpful to have more support and I am more than willing to take help when I need it for a healthy baby. 

I’m sure I’ll receive a lot of judgment and ridicule for not being able to “just do it” or for “needing more help when I’m pregnant” but you know what, everyone has struggles. My baby IS my priority and that’s evidence by my actions. 

Other good moments (it feels good to do decide to do the right thing rather than being forced ;) )

Deciding to cut WAY back on social media/electronics/blogging and focus on being with Noah. We’ve had a pretty great week together and inside I feel like a more fulfilled mom/wife and person. Wednesday I didn’t check anything blog or social media related at all. I think my new habits around electronics will be: 

1. Nothing while Noah is awake. For several reasons? one that it takes away from my time with him and others we are with. I also don’t want him to see his mom glued to her phone constantly. I got to where I was checking it in line at the store, in waiting rooms, at home on the couch during our family time, and pretty much whenever I felt like it. The purge has been SO helpful and extremely refreshing.

2. Blog when I feel like it. Blogging takes a lot of time and then I feel like I don’t have enough or I feel stressed about doing it. I say I’m “so busy” when really often I just manage my time poorly. I sat down, thought long and hard about my priorities, and as much as I love you guys when I blog constantly it takes away from valuable time I have with the ones I mean the most. So my posts will become less frequent but I still plan to check in maybe a few times a week?

Miss anything? Oh goodness, I miss being pain free. The amount of pain in my back is unbearable at times and I am unable to walk. Thank goodness for good chiropractic care, hot baths, a helpful husband and family, and Tylenol. Like I mentioned Wednesday, I know it will get back to normal eventually and in the really painful moments I imagine holding my baby girl in a few months. It”ll be totally worth it. 

Movement: Yes, always. And I love it. Seriously it’s one of the coolest feelings I’ve ever had.

Food Cravings: None specially, just going to eat more in general! I kind of got on a Kind bar and sea salt kick (and yes, they do make a kind bar WITH sea salt, this just isn’t it.) The chili in this one caught my eye…

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope.

Gender: Girl!!!

Labor Signs: None!

Symptoms: Back of a 90 year old woman (the chiropractor’s words, not mine?), congestion at night, poor sleep (ha). 

Belly Button ? in or out?  In, and getting flatter haha!

Wedding Rings ? on or off? On!

Happy or Moody? Happy with the direction things are heading :-)

Looking Forward To: Everything that’s to come :-) Joe and I were talking about how sometimes life’s struggles seem impossible and like we can’t make it through. When we refocus and remember we don’t have to rely on our own strength, the mountain seems climbable and we can take it a day at a time. God is always right there with us guiding us down the right path. It’s totally doable (and exciting!) at that point.

Have a great weekend, too! I hope your chiropractor can alleviate some of your pain! Enjoy every single moment with Noah before the baby arrives. Your pictures brought back such wonderful memories for me from the time I had with my two-year old just before his little brother arrived! :-)

I don’t think you’re weak or should expect ANY judgement for seeking help. I think that it is GREAT to reach out for extra help if you need it. I’ve always had an issue with asking for help with anything while I was growing up, but I learned that requesting help is NOT a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of strength and an admittance that you still have more to learn. Good luck to you and I can’t wait to hear what you learn this time around! I’ve been loving when you share what you’ve learned in therapy (even though I’m not a mother and I have not suffered from an ED) because I feel like those lessons can be applied to EVERYONE’S life. I only gained around 20-25 lbs. with each of my pregnancies and still had healthy, full-term, big babies. I got a lot of slack, though, from people about being “too small.” I think it’s great you are doing whatever you need to do to have a healthy baby–smart girl!

I think you’re being very responsible to seek extra help! I have HUGE respect for people who are able to recognize when they need help and humble enough to go get it. Good for you.

And thank you for sharing your thoughts about blogging and cutting back. Sometimes I feel guilty for not prioritizing my blog higher in my life and being more aggressive about it, like I feel everyone else is, and I have to constantly remind myself that, no, life is more important!

Enjoy all the time you can with Noah — they grow up so fast and you don’t want to miss those precious early years :) And that Tarte maracuja oil? Liquid gold. I’ve been using it for the past month or so and I don’t even want to remember life without it.

I want to try that maracuja oil…but I’ll probably save it for after I start working after looking at the price tag, lol. How long do you think one bottle will last? I think that’s great that you’re going to get additional support for the remainder of the pregnancy. This is one area that I know my husband will be persistent with when/if we become pregnant again. I was actually advised to gain 30-40 pounds the first time around, but have cut out almost all cardio (I’ll do a day or two here or there a week), maintained strength training, and increased my caloric intake by adding more healthy fats to my diet and gained about 5 pounds. My doctor is happy and my cycles are normal, but we’ve begun fertility testing so I’m hoping we find answers within the next few months. Anyways, thinking of you and happy you’re taking initiative! :)

It’s really great that you are doing a cleanse from social media. I definitely find myself glued to my phone when there’s any bit of a lull, and that’s a super bad habit to form! You’ve challenged me to also be present in the moment and not be scrolling through all the different social media stuff out there.
Also, I’m going to have to look into the maracuja oil! I have acne and am starting to see the fine lines, too!

So proud of you for making this decision!! It is so important for not only your baby girl, but you, and I couldn’t be happier for you.

I think I need to check out that oil, haha. Maybe prevent some lines! lol I am also with you that I need to cut back on the social media and computer time. I feel like I”m losing out on life!

I think it’s awesome that you are seeking the extra support yourself! We can definitely see that your baby is the priority and are behind you 100% :) Every body is different and as long as you’re doing what you know is healthy, your body will know what to do for your baby!

Never heard of that oil before – I’ll have to check that out! Love tarte products. Also, I think cutting down the social media is such a great idea. My husband and I did that for almost all of December sort of “fasting” before Christmas, and it was so refreshing! I’m sure once the baby gets here I’ll be much more aware of how much time I need to spend on social media again. Good reminder!

Hope your back feels better! And yay for a good glucose test! I took mine this morning and passed – yay!! I really wanted to take the obligatory “glucose bottle photo” but the nurse just gave me a little cup and never let me hold the bottle, haha. Sounds lame but I feel like I missed a photo op! :)

I read your post and was thinking good for you that you decided to get some additional support with your eating during pregnancy. I can’t imagine anyone would criticism you for having self awareness and making a decision to be healthy!

I love dark chocolate; that ghirardelli bar look delicious. How is the granola bar with chili in it? It sounds delicious as well. I definitely want to try that oil that you mentioned. I could use less wrinkles and less acne. :)

It was SO GOOD! I recommend trying it. It’s not overly chili flavored which I kind of thought it would be. The combination was perfect.
