A serious argument that you can help me win.

As promised, the coffee cake picture…

I’d love to tell you how I made this from scratch, poured my heart, soul, and love into it, however I actually bought the giant pan at Kroger… manager’s special on the clearance baked goods rack for $1.49 (for the win!)

I’ve been working on making an altar-like thing in my home (maybe I’m strange). My reasoning was to have a quiet place to go to pray, meditate, think, or read. I worked on it for a while yesterday and it’s almost done. I’m excited to show you soon :-)

Noah also has his sacred space. This is his favorite toy as of Sunday. He doesn’t actually like to push the go button because I think it scares him. He just likes to sit on it. Whatever works right?

The following are my attempt at some good “almost 18 months old” pictures of Noah. Annnnd that’s why we hire professionals.

I made homemade lasagna (another meal I’d never made in our marriage  before last night) for dinner. Epic fail moment was taking it out of the oven and realizing I had forgotten to cover it with foil. The top was a little dry but the goat cheese I snuck in there made it pretty darn good. And Joe said he likes it to be crispy on the edges… I’ll take it!

Lasagna main

We ended our night with some chocolate cake from Monday! Joe stole a bite of mine and I may or may not have gotten extremely upset with him. He learned his lesson, got his own piece, and proceeded to pour milk on it. I had poured a jar of extra frosting on mine so then we argued about who’s way was better. And that kids, is how communication in a lasting marriage works ;-) Happy Thursday!

Questions

I need your expert advice on who made the more delicious dessert!!!!!!!!!!

1. Do you buy pre made desserts or make them yourself?

2. Any photography advice?

3. How do you make lasagna? (or if you buy it frozen… no judgment. I like that kind too!)

I usually make all my desserts since there isn’t a good gluten-free bakery near by. I really enjoy cooking, so I don’t mind that good gluten-free baked good are hard to find. I have ZERO photography advice, I’m the worst. I feel like you should have to have a certain skill level to be a blogger and I just don’t possess it!

Absolutely no photo skills here, as you know if you’ve ever seen my blog. I’m opposite- I don’t bake and hate it so I buy everything from whole foods!

Haha that reminds me of the friends episode when Joey is on a date and the girl tries to take some of his food. “Joey does not share food!”

My mother makes the worlds best lasagna- she uses a couple different types of cheese (but, interestingly enough, no ricotta) a blend of rao’s marinara sauce and one she makes, italian sausage and mushrooms (on one half only because there are some picky eaters in my family), and voila. heaven in a pan.

Frosting, definitely. You can’t go wrong with double the frosting. I wouldn’t share, either. He would have lost an arm if that was me in your situation.

Oh, come on! Frosting >> Milk. C’mon, Joe! :)

I haven’t made lasagna in for-ev-er (you have to say it like the kid in “The Sandlot”). I’ve thought about doing the butternut squash lasagna or something but I’m just too lazy. Back in the day the frozen lasagnas were pretty darn good too, but never have enough cheese for my liking. I like a little lasagna with my cheese.

Your kid takes way better pictures than my kid. Squish immediately wants to rip the phone/camera out of your hand to chew on it. I might have to table photo-taking until he’s outgrown the chew-all-the-things stage.

You are so selfless. I steal his frosting and add it to my cake. He gets nothing and likes it.

I always buy the Stouffer’s frozen lasagna. It’s just too good to waste my own time trying to make anything better! I am not a big fan of frozen meat however. I think my favorite easy dinners are one-pot pastas with meat and veggies all in there with a yummy sauce.

Photography advice– I took lots of photog classes in high school and travel with my Cannon DSLR everywhere, and the simpilest greatest advice I have is to use THE RULE OF THIRDS! When you are taking a picture, divide up the frame into thirds horizontally and vertically ((so basically you have 2 vertical lines, 2 horz. lines, and 9 “boxes”)). Place the subject in the “thirds” rather than in the dead center. Top Right, Bottom Left… whereever! It is amazing what this little “rule” following can do to a picture!!

And Noah is ADORABLE : )

Oh the frosting wins for sure! and I’m not just saying that.
I like Stouffer’s but I should try making it some time. It’s just hard when I’m cooking for just me to be motivated to make something big like that.
Noah is so dang cute!

I have never poured milk on cake but that sounds genious. I am not a big lasagna fan but if I do eat it, it has to be homemade. I think the frozen kind is gross :/

Frosting for sure! But must be homemade frosting and not cream cheese frosting (so gross sorry L)! No photography advice… I only get as intense as using an iPhone camera… And even that is sometimes over my head!

Extra icing trumps milk on any cake! :-)

I love baking so I usually make my own desserts, but sometimes we buy them at Wegman’s!

Since you asked… The pictures of Noah on his bike and standing facing the flowers would have worked better if you’d gotten down on his level. At least that’s what my photographer hubby always tells me! Of course it’s hard to go wrong with such a cute subject as Noah! :-)

OMG. Lasagna. Not a dish I make, ever, but one that my husband is king at whipping together. His secret? Getting noodles to that just right state of al dente before you bake it. :) when it comes to photography, I’m horrible at remembering my camera, do if my phone can’t do it, its no dice!

I usually make desserts myself..unless it’s ice cream, because I don’t have a churner ;) I have no photography advice, but my sister is an excellent photographer if you want me to e-mail her/you can e-mail her for tips? I make my lasagna in the crockpot..just like you would make regular lasagna, only it takes longer! It’s honestly one of the most amazing tasting lasagnas I’ve ever had.

Yours is better. Icing is a dessert in itself! Silly Joe. I love making desserts for selfish reasons because I like to lick the bowl ;) Recently had a lasagna fail. “Oven ready” noodles apparently need something else before you actually put them in the oven hahah! It was a tad crunchy!

Frosting is the best part, IMO. Milk? I’ve never seen anyone pour milk over their cake.
If I want dessert, I usually make it myself, since I love to bake.

I like to put a ton of veggies in my lasagna, and try to make it dairy-free with tofu “ricotta”. The last lasagna I made had dairy in it, though. It was sooo good, it had butternut squash and onion layered with a bechamel sauce, parmesan, and mozzarella cheese.

My husband JUST fashioned himself a meditation area. He checked online how to “build” one inexpensively. He used black sheets and a mirror. I don’t know much else about it though, but he says it’s great! You’re not strange! :)
As far as desserts go, I do like to make them myself, when I have time, but when I’m at Whole Foods, I always have to pick up some of the loose cookies that they have in the bakery for me and the fam.
I do make my own lasagna…….store bought to me always has that, um, store bought taste.
Since I’ve started my blog, I have really been practicing my photography. I never knew just a point and shoot camera could take great pictures!!!! It’s so much fun!!! :)
Also, your pictures of your little Noah are adorable!!!!!! :)
